After installing about a dozen mods or so (most of which were removed by an auto-installer ) I've noticed one particular very annoying tendency about some of the ships: they're too easy to capture if they have very strong shields and hull. An enemy fleet gets in there, attacks all at once and the crew somehow gets killed off and the ship taken over. I tried to cheat-fix this by adding the line shieldProtection = 1.0 to the ship odf (to make the shield take all the damage), but some times even this doesn't work. The shield is doing fine until it suddenly goes down for no reason and the ship is captured.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Yeah, my solution would be to learn to use Strategy and Tactics instead of relying on a single god ship.

Gotta go with him there. Whilst it is a nice line, if you're gonna use it, it should be implemented on EVERY object in game that has shields. Giving it to one ship, building a fleet of them then just makes the game sorely un-balanced and essentially, you have a "God fleet". My guessing, if it suddenly goes down, is that you just didn't notice the enemy use a special on you that disables shields (there are quite a few).

I don't use them all the time, just occasionally when I feel like kicking major butt without effort :naughty:

And the shield distruptor must have been the problem, I just found out the Cardassians have one (I was attacking them when the shields went down suddenly)

...Besides, some special weapons can disable any ship, no matter how powerful.

I figured out the solution to that situation: increase the number of hitpoints for individual systems, especially the shield generator

there is a odf command that some star bases have that prohibits crew dropage until the shields are gone, look for it and then insert it.
