Ok folks I need some Ideas as to how best lay out the interface for BC but with a more realistic LCARS style interface. Look here to get a better idea of what I mean.. http://lcarscom.net/

Firstly what I'm planning is a complete rewrite of the menus, giving them a more 'cannon' feel, also to include some of the more usefull addons/ new Tech around at the moment. I'd like to add a few more features as well such as have been hinted at in the ATP Dimensions threads, like an Stellar Cartography screen for navigation instead of the current button list thing. More detailed ship displays ect..

Mostly I'd like ppl to stick with the basic options the game provides but if you think something is just in the wrong place( ie. should Felix have Helm Control in his menu ? or should it stay with Kiska ? But what about Tactical......) feel free to state your reasons for the move. Feel free also, to just write your ideas, but rember a picture is worth a thousand words. Can't use a paint package? draw it on the back of a beermat and hold it up in front of your webcam, if it better gets your idea across.

Submissions should include: Which Menu it relates to If its a sub-menu what transition from previous menu? Same with Button behaviour, How does it spawn? And the behaviour of the menu elements ie. any animations, effects ect...

ANote to Scripters/ programers ect... It is my intention to 'Hardcode' a lot of this in C++, and I'm willing to discuss this with you privately. My intention is to address/solve once and for all some of the major shortcommings of BC especialy in the MP Game. At the Heart of the game is the NetImmerse game engine and alot of it's features are not even refered to in the stock game, I know we can do something about this! In short the improvements should still allow for a unmodified (stock) game to participate in MP games with the modified versions. And should allow for the 'Easy' inclusion of python based mods (ships, systems, weapons ect..)

This is not going to happen tomorrow! it may naver happen. But if there needs be an incentive; there is no other game like BC, yeah there are lots of space based games but only BC allows you to 'Captain' a starship. The rest are mostly fleet based games, or roleplay type things (PS2 ports !)( Don't hold me to that bit :lookaround: ) I am lucky enough to be able to spend A LOT of time on this, so it may show up sooner rather than later and I'd rather have some input on the design of the interface than just impose my own ideas on it. So any input (Good or Bad) welcomed.

Ok, here's my input --> FREAKIN' GREAT IDEA !!! I like it. You're absolutley right about the cannon feel. Although there is a menu to LCARS mod, verry nice thouhg, it's not the complete menu.

Possible concept: Make the entire main set of the menu a LCARS based surrounding, which stays that way, and let the inner parts change in an animation.

I'm not pushing you, it's just a great idea!

Nice use of the lcars theme, but I'm thinking to carry that through to the in game menus as well. Some Screens will stay somewhat the same as reguards layout but with improved graphics. Others whould change compleatly allowing alsorts of extras due to a restructured interface.

More Thoughts on this:

Another Idea is to have a Race Specific interface, in that if you are playing Klingon or Romulan you can select the interface for that species. So if you speak/read-write fluent Klingon, Romulan or even Vulcan (Maybe others,as I'm not sure how many Star Trek languages are available, maybe someone in US/California (UCLA I think)can let me know?) then I'd be intrested in a version for those, using their styling and translating the interface in to that language. On a similar note is anybody (Male and Female) interested in some doing some new crew voices in Klingon and Romulan ?

Great idea. You could make the camera zoom into the lcars panels on your bridge (sides of your chair and behing you for galaxy bridge) and have the buttons on your menu cover up the buttons on that.

Not sure about the language changes, but certainly changing the display styles for different races is a great idea.

You'll need to keep it clear though as some of the LCARS screens I've seen look quite confusing.

It just struck me that if I was going to allow for a non-English version (eg.German) that I might as well cater for the Die Hard Trekkie and offer the actual ST language as well. :D

I'll post a few mock ups in a day or two just to get the ball rolling, but I'm migrating to a new puter at the mo so bare with me.
