My thoughts:

Sovereign looks like she's doing Warp 5 when standing still. It has more weaponry than any other starship, she has ablative armour, she outlasted the "Latest and Greatest" Romulan Warbirds, (Valdore and her sister were either destroyed or crippled within minutes). It is one of the only Starfleet ships to make use of pulse-firing Quantum Torpedoes AND photon torpedoes (Canon Reference: First contact and nemesis) She's much more agile than a Galaxy (Compare the E-E in Nemesis to the Galaxies during the Dominion war) The Enterprise has always represented the pinnacle of Starfleet technology, and it stands to reason that the Sovereign Class IS that pinnacle as a result. Therefore: Sovereign Class > All (Just look at it! Its the most sleek hot rod in star trek history!)

My thoughts on other ships are as follows: Prometheus: MVAM is ridiculous. The saucer seperation on the Galaxy was interesting, but to have the ship break in to THREE parts is just stupid. Its also only about the size of an Intrepid (300 meters... give or take) and that makes its longevity extremely limited.

Intrepid Class: Overrated. Its 300 meters long, has bugger-all weaponry and is suited to scientific work (Which it carries out brilliantly), But to compare starfleet to the Delta Quadrant races by using Voyager is a stupid idea. The Intrepid class PALES in comparison even to something like an older Ambassador class. (Tactically speaking)

Galaxy Class: its fat, cumbersome, too massive of a target and a single bird of prey managed to kill the flagship. That is a pretty shocking record. Admiteely the Galaxy class is good in the scientific role like any starfleet ship, but even with its shields effectively down, the E-D *should* have been able to completely smash an ancient, run down B'rel class D-12 Bird of Prey and still live to fight another day. Instead it wound up with a warp core breach. ...Of course, it stands to reason to ask the question: Why the hell didnt Riker or Worf rotate the shield modulation??

Akira Class: As they say, "THE ORIGINAL AND THE BEST". The Akira in my opinion is ranked number 2 behind the Sovereign. Several reasons. 1) She has style that was so good that the makers of Enterprise copied it. 2) Its an excellent multi-purpose starship and 3) Compared to something like a Sovereign or that beast called the Galaxy, its easier to build. But, I am still unconvinced about the 15 torpedo tubes... this has yet to be seen as a canon fact on screen

Defiant Class: Am I the only one who sees many problems with this ship? It can't even decide how big it wants to be. In first contact next to the E-E, she looked marginally bigger than a runabout. docked at DS9, she looks about half the size of a Galaxy (That would suggest 300 meters long) and when in combat its made out to be 100 meters long. WTF? Also, I find it amazing how a ship that is basically as big as a Modern day Guided missile Frigate somehow manages to fit: Dual Quantum Torpedo bays, Quad pulse phaser batteries, Tractor beams SHUTTLE BAY (Come on people!) Warp Core, Crew quarters for 80-100 people (Assuming that there are 3 to a room the size of which we see in the show, then its basically 26 rooms at 6X12 foot each!)

I dont like Defiant for the simple reason its so damned inconsistent. Brilliant in concept, I give it full points for that, but I give it 1/10 on the continuity scale.

just my humble opinion...

watch generations agian, the enterprise only returned fire on the D-12 BOP twice, with the one phaser blast and one photon torpedo, if they really would have opened up fire on her, that BOP would have been done for in a few seconds.

we dont know how many times the E-D fired. We only ever saw bridge shots for most of the battle.

the E-D couldn't have fired that many times though, or that BOP would have been destroyed, i mean in DS9 we see the galaxys ripping galors apart with just a few phaser blasts. and in "yesterdays enterprise" the E-D whopped a K'Vort BOP Cruiser with just a few shots. if they really would have opened fire on it, the battle would have lasted only a few seconds. the E-D's type 10 phasers, the second most powerfull type, would have whopped the BOP easy.

well that then raises the question: "Were Starfleet's Finest crew really that good?" :P

Riker's words should have been: "FIRE AT WILL!"
