well detonating away from the hull when the ship has no shields won't lok good, and it's daves pack and he said no so no is the final answer

To clarify what I meant:

In BSG:

The explosions in space between fighting capital ships are generated by the colonial ships as a primitive version of shields. They are (for the most part) not created by enemy fire. They are there to blow up enemy projectiles and fighters which get too close. They are, needless to say, not the most effective defense, but they look cool. It's referred to as the Flak barrier.

The evidence that the flak barrier is of Galactica's making is backed up by the basestar's armament. They hurl a few missiles a minute at Galactica, while the raiders create a hail of small arms fire to suppress the colonial fighters.

Galactica creates a hail of fire to suppress the raiders, sending heavier ordinance out beyond the fighter fracas to impact the basestars, while the vipers weave around and selectively pick off individual raiders.

Actually, in terms of pure tactics, it seems the Colonials have a huge advantage over the Cylons.

In BC:

The new inaccurate target mod (ie; not the one by Sneaker98), in my understanding, offsets the target location by a certain amount every time a weapon is fired. I have definitely seen projectiles (including torpedoes and pulses) hit(& miss) target vessels in random patterns while there is no relative movement. It works for AI too.

However, it's a minor concern.

Flak barrier would be cool, but as to how to pull it off, you've got me. I can only cite the example of the Spacial Charges mod.

Having some form of flak barrier would kick ass, looking right, while not having shields would see weapons colliding correctly with the hull.

I'm aware of what you meant by the flack barrier, but as far as I know there are no weapons mods that i've found that detonate randomly in between ships...there are certainly no mods that would allow the destruction of weapons fire to act as a defensive barrier (except for the point defence mod from KM, but that only works for beams at the moment). There is no way that I know of to make a Flak barrier in BC, and as for the new inaccurate targeting mod, i've heard nothing about it and as far as i'm aware it's not on BCFiles (if i'm wrong a link would be good) so i've no idea whether it will be useful and I can't even attempt to modify it!

So, let's move on shall we...the Valkyrie is now hardpointed (just needs a few minor alignment tweaks) and has a shuttle launch script added, and the textures are underway, and about half done. Looks nice and cannon.

If you are curious, I believe the new inaccurate target mod is part of the Ftech pack. see here. It's still in development, but it's got an open-build policy.

to quote the great MLeo:

FoundationTechnologies is a Foundation based framework for non intrusive modular technology plugins for various aspects of BC. It also provides various tools and informations for technologies to use.

It isn't always on, and it's only triggered on ship creation and weapons fire (tractor beams will at one point) and then only if there is a ship using a technology needing the triggers (save for innaccurate phasers, which work for both player and AI and the ship creation trigger).

Also, if a ship is configured for a technology that isn't present, then it isn't used.

Just FYI. I'll stop harping on now (at least until I have some concrete help for you.)

For anyone still keeping up with this project, sorry I haven't posted much about it for a while (got a little busy with the stargate pack lately!).

DKealt has kindly agreed to do the textures for the new ships and is currently working on redoing my textures for the Battlestar Valkyrie (although I am getting better at textures they still need a more experienced touch to improve the quality!). As soon as the textures of the Valkyrie are done i'll post a few pics of it.

Also I only have 1 model left to do for the sg pack and my exams are almost over so over the next few weeks i'll probably start turning most of my attention to this project, starting with the ressurection ship.
