Hi,

I've been fooling around with the Lint's Constitution's textures and wanted to try removing the name and registry on the ship. But when I save the ..._glow.tga file regardless of the change I make when in game the whole area effected by that texture starts glowing intensely and you can only see the detail in the texture when looking at the ship from an obscure angle.

If need be I'll post some screen shots but any ideas as to whats causing it? I used Adobe Photoshop 7.0 to edit the texture. Yes I do have a backup of the texture and it works fine when I put it in.

Appreciate your time.

When opening up a .tga file, there are two different sets of information in there of interest, the main image and something called the Alpha Channel (if you look around the various submenus of your graphics editor, you should see it eventually). The alpha channel decides how much each part of the image glows, and often if you try and edit the image, this gets saved incorrectly. Try to bring over the alpha channel from the unaltered image.

Don't think I'm ignoring what you just said I'm still trying to find the alpha channel stuff. I thought I found it not so sure now and when I went to save as a .tga file under the save options was Alpha Channels unfortunately it will not allow me to check any of the options with this file type because 'it must be saved as a copy' and thus must remain unchecked.

I have a feeling this is my main problem but then again it's managing to tell it to glow all over. Is this my problem? Or just part of the problem? Or no problem at all?

It's the alpha channel. What it is, is basically a blank (black) image. Any part of the image colored white will glow to the maximum intensity of the game. Anything grey will glow partially. Edit an alpha channel the same way you would a normal image, just make sure it corresponds to the parts of your main image you want to glow. If you're having trouble saving just save to a different folder and paste the file back into the directory when you're finished.

Okay,

I see what you're saying about the black grey and white parts. But you misunderstood my saving problem the file type will not allow me to save changes to the alpha channel for some reason and was wondering if this is because I'm trying to save to .tga or if it's a restriction in ps 7.

Check and see if the channel is locked. I don't know if that restricts just editing or saving. It's not because of the filetype, that's for certain. I don't think it's because of PS7 either.
