First off, i don't know much aboot computers so this is just a suggestion. Would it be possible to have a QBR mission or something that re-created some of the large battles of the Dominion War using literally thousands of ships if one was to just have all the large ships (galors, keldons, excelsiors, galaxys, steamrunners, dominion cruisers, etc.) as computer-controlled elements of the environment that remain stationary as you try to navigate through them. For example, the player would be something small like a defiant, bird of prey, or peregrine and would have to fly around through all these larger ships that you couldn't target but would just sort of "be" there like the asteriods in the beol 4 asteriod field; you can't target or destroy them, and they don't move, but they're still in the environment. Anyway, the player would, say, have to get past all these big ships that fire at it every once in a while (the phasers would have to be able to miss, though) and then have some bug ships fly in that you can target and destroy. Has anyone ever thoguht about his before? Anyone ever tried? Anyone wanna?

That would be a cool Idea. I'll bet you could create a system that would have a bunch of stationary ships like you said. I think you would have to replace or rather create new object py's like the astiroids but with ship moddels instead. I'll play around with this and get back to you.

hmmmm, i think station hardpoints would make that possible. Low poly, but highly designed ships would do that. YOu could target them this way, and still be fired upon. However for those ships i would make very narrow fireing arcs for each ship so the mod is balanced and your not being hit with thouands of beams and torpedes. I would have to work it out more.

Well, yeah, but I was thinking more along the lines of the battles in "Star Trek: Shattered Universe" of "Star Wars: Battlefront 2" where you're little, and you're flying through all these huge cruisers that are concertrating on destroying eachother, whilst sending out fighters to deal with you. Obviously, I think it would be a let down if you could only be a fighter, you'd have to be able to be something the size of the Defiant or a BoP. But it would be be annoying to have all 3000 ships or however many there were in the battle to retake Ds9, for example, all targetable in your list, it would be huge, and the chance that the game would list them in any sort of order is slim. So have the cruisers battle eachother, while you fight the fighters launched by the cruisers and the cruisers themselve just act as more of an obstacle to hinder flying and targeting. I don't know, with the Bridge Plugin, updated versions of the BC Supermod and Kob Maru on the way, and CA's improvement pack this winter, something like this won't get done until a new Trek game comes along for the PS3 of something and does it for us.

mmmh, indeed if you are a fighter!! SO lets say the battle of sacrifice of angels! 1300 cardies and dominions ships are standing still! You seee 700- 600 ships federation ships and fighters just flying through the other fleet. you are able to destroy big ships and with other fighters. But the big ships have problem targeting you because your fast and heavy maneuverable but you see the big ships firing at each other!! that would be very very cool!

i lovein the idea. however im not convinced. the whole point of the fighters were to weaken the cardies. make them mad. break the formation of lines and punch a hole thru with the fleet. i think its a great modding idea, but id like to see it with the huge ships targetable. So how about a creation of a sorting targeting plug-in? keep large ships from small ships. it would make the panamonium down to a minimum while keeping to trek realism.

I agree, the point of the fighters were to divert enemy forces or to assist in taking out obstacles to secure space superiority.

AFAIK there is no such thing as "hold this area" objectives in BC... If I am wrong my apologies...

AS how you would do this with so many ships? I guess that would be up to mission creation and how many the engien can handle at once..

Forgive the screenie but this si how FS2 gets around it by quietly spawning more ships in wigns as they are destroyed... Thereby each side can maintain 30-50 ships at once without the player noticing the arrival of reinforcements as ships get destroyed. They just think assets have been moved around.
