Here is a quick tractor beam question for you all. Is there any way to make the tractor beam work better. When I tractor another ship I might be able to run at Impulse 1 and tow ship, but most of the time I just get farther away from ship in tow. Which makes the tractor beam get out of range and shut off. I think it would be nice to travel at atleast impulse5 and tow another ship.
Modifie the Tractor beam damage, and make it really high, you might be able to get up that high. i got it up to impulse 4 before i started to over load it. thats how i got this screen shot in place Took me 3 hours to get it set up usein the Sol system mod tho.... especialy with the excelsior being the Tower.

(Look for this) class TractorBeamSystem(WeaponSystem): TBS_HOLD = Appc.TractorBeamSystem_TBS_HOLD TBS_TOW = Appc.TractorBeamSystem_TBS_TOW TBS_PULL = Appc.TractorBeamSystem_TBS_PULL TBS_PUSH = Appc.TractorBeamSystem_TBS_PUSH TBS_DOCK_STAGE_1 = Appc.TractorBeamSystem_TBS_DOCK_STAGE_1 TBS_DOCK_STAGE_2 = Appc.TractorBeamSystem_TBS_DOCK_STAGE_2 I'd be happy with the first 4 from the above, available as a 4 way toggle.....tho I'm sure the other 2 have there uses.
I know about these. I have used them as well. But not in a way you are thinking. I used the console to get the player, it's Tractor System and then I changed the mode using SetMode. I believe TBS_HOLD has a value of 0, and I think it was the normal tractor state (but it has been a while since I did that).
Back in the day, in "Star Trek-Starfleet Academy", you could not only travel at any factor of Impulse, but you could also Warp with a Vessel in Tow.
I've always wanted to be able to disable ships and then tow them into the sun or a planet,that would be so cool!
And on the subject of things that need sorting out this is my idea of what the Tactical\Engineering should be laid out like. I got bored the other nite and ended up with this as a "Storyboard" for when I'm looking for things in particular.
Features would include........ Tractors - 4 way Toggle and power slider Weapons- Sliders for beams and Torpedeo Yeild/Damage. Sheilds - New Master controler and Powerbars for each Sheild... ATP - as Standard...........(This is a must Have) Also in the the Helm menu.. The ability to warp jump in set (more realistic intercept and combat) This I see a the default option if you dont set a course, so warp button would always be active.
Yea I know this is the result of too much coffee but I know this is all possible it's just a matter of being brave with the Python code, and will posibly need a major rewrite of quite a few scripts. Something which is beyond me at the moment.

lol why don't you turn the radius on the hp up and edit the TGA file for the particle effect?
I don't think a wider beam would look very good I think that thetractor should change shape depending on the ship so the ship would always be covered,meaning if you tow a shuttle the tractor beam will be tiny but if you tow a warbird the tractor beam would be large.

Well it certainly doesn't tow, push, or pull :P
9896 is right... A fat tractor looks ugly... especially on a shuttle :P It should change sizes. Maybe there is a way to flatten it out too...
