Hey guys, I downloaded some really cool ship models and would love to put them to good use. The only thing is, is that I need someone to convert them for me from "*.3ds" or "*.max" to "*.nif". Any help would be really great. I'm willing to try scripting and stuff my self, so all you need to do is the model conversion. thanks
You can do it yourself, just download Milkshape 1.7 or later and the plugins for Armada and Bridge Commander (use google or something similar) Once you have them installed, import the .3ds into milkshape and export it as .nif
for other file formats there is the free program gmax. Google the gmax forums and there you'll find information on exporting in various different formats that can then be sent to milkshape for conversion into .nif. Gmax is currently on hold until the new windows operating system allows it to morph into its latest form, but support is available on the forums and once the new version is out, its back to begging them for a .nif exporter...
mmhh, doubtfull. I used Gmax and it didn't work, and when I could make it work, it jammed all the models I converted. That's why I preffer Milkshape, tho it craps the smoothing a little.
Horses for courses - I use it and it does work.
It depends on choosing the right formats for exporting and importing and whether you want to export an entire model at once - we're dealing with free and low cost programs after all. Better to go bit by bit and experiment with different formats.
