After years of owning, playing, and modding ST: Armada II, I have decided that I would like to explore the Bridge Commander universe. Impressed by innumerable ship additions, I am now set on a quest to purchase this game wherever possible. However, this quest is not the reason for which I post.

After exploring the file archive, I have come upon much jargon which has retarded my search for desirable ships. Often I am confronted with the following terms preceding or succeeding a file's title, or which has been placed somewhere amidst the description or readme. These terms are as follows:

  • MVAM
  • MPMP
  • BCMI
  • BCMP
  • NanoFX
  • mutator
  • foundation

I have concluded that at least some of these must be "Mission"-based or "Multiplayer"-based modifications, and that with some mods there exists a possibility of incompatability with another.

I desire to one day wage battles against other players or AI, perhaps using such ships as those of the Galactica, Stargate, and Nemesis packs, and perhaps enjoying the features of this Kobayashi Maru mod of which I have read much.

If someone could help to illuminate the aforementioned terms to me, and perhaps point out issues of compatability or mods of popularity (for multiplayer's sake) I would be most appreciative. Thank you.

Kettu

Hello there KettuTheConqueror welcome to the world of BC!

* MVAM- Multi vector assault Mode (a mod for bc that lets ships sep) * MPMP - Multiplayer mod pack (a mod ment for MP) (there are several more like this) * BCMI - Bridge Commander Mod Installer (get BCMI.NET... used to install ships or mods packaged in .BCmod format) * BCMP- Bridge Commander Mod packager (used to creat custom ship files to place the ships in their ingame menus) * NanoFX -NanoFX is a graphical upgrade to the bc experience * mutator - this is part of the foundation it will be under the config menu in BC once the Foundation is installed (controls the mods turns them on and off) * foundation - NEEDED FOR ALL MODS IN BC TO WORK! as said it is the foundation, to BC modding.... you need it! (note retextures of stock ships and systems don't need it)

I would make many sep installs of BC so you can have a stock install for SP, a modded install for your own QB battles, and maybe another for MP mod packs.

my mod list *list of mods*

mvam is saucer seping. it allows your ship to change in battle. galaxy sucer seps bop changes it wing config stuff like that srry i dont know what mpmp is. bcmi is how you install a slect few ships. it uses a .bcmod file. its realy easy i think to use. bcmp is the other way to install ships (other than a straight installer). you drag all the files into were they belong and use bcmp to "ake the game aware" of your mods. nanofx is an update to the bc graphics. it adds new damaging effects and to much other cool crap to mention a mutator is the way to turn on and off non ship mods like nano fx. foundation i dont know what it does exactly but i know that u need it for mods and it comes with bcmp. hope that helped.

Thank you very much, fellows. You have been a tremendous help. I will put this information to good use. Now to more thoroughly sort through that list of mods.

I probably will try a dual installation when the time comes, and in the mean time try to determine which multiplayer packs are the most common.

Again, thank you.

Before you install any ships or scripts, make sure you install QBAutostart first. If you dont then chances are you may end up with a BSOD (black screen of death). Not all mods use this script but there are a select few that do and its better to be safe then sorry.

QBAutostart 9.1 http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/QB_Autostart;39736

and always make backups before installing anything, just in case something should go wrong, you're always safe that way...

After a number of Armada II conflicts, I certainly have learned to backup for changes.

Any idea on what SDK is? Is it a tool for skinning, scripting, modeling...?
