In the popular show Star Trek we sometimes chat about, the galaxy is split into four quadrents, Alpha Quadrent, (us) Beta Quadrent (our klingon buddies), Gamma Quadrent (Druggies) and Delta Quadrent (Home of the best show ever). But what i want to know is do the quadrents actualy exsist, or are they for the show, or are they by a different name? Forgive me if this is a dum-ass question but i cant find anything that confirms anything so i ask the knolageable experts. Thanks and happy new cristmas.

The quadrant split-up (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta) is the work of fiction. In the earliest episodes (TOS) the term "quadrant" was rather loosly defined (as were "sector"). First with TNG came a firm definition. However, there is an actual split-up of the Milky Way. Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and each "arm" has a name; so in a way there are "quadrants". milkyway.jpg

Yeah, it was Star Trek 6 I believe that forced us to be on the edge of the Alpha Quadrant.
