How can I reduce the memory load that (for instance) many BoP's create when firing? I thought of reducing the textures, but I on't think that'll work... Are there any other ways? Exodus
I'm not entirely sure why (someone who knows, please feel free to correct me here) but it has to do with what BC does to creat pulses. They're not created as simple textures, like phasers. I think they're models or something... Reducing the textures will help, of course, but it would be very minimal, almost unnoticable. It's just another limitation of the BC engine.
I thought so... Anything else I can do besides "don't have twenty Defiant's"? Thanks anyway...
You'll have to look for savings in memory elsewhere - use maps with nothing in them, use low poly ships (there have been low poly ship packs for this reason) and alter the pointer files to stop high resolution models being used. You can also do things like turn of speculars and damage etc, but best to play around with all of them and see what you can kill without killing the look of it too much.
You can also Photoshop textures yourself to a lower resolution. That's what I had to do with my old machine. It was quite similar to yours but with only 512MB RAM. :p
