After almost starting a war on one of the other threads i have set up this thread to argue about the favourite series, personally mine is Deep Space Nine. This is because there is a great big war, there is a very cool set of ships (runabouts and Defiant) and there is a new sector of the galaxyto explore. Voyager is crap, it has nothing to do with star trek, all they want to do is get home, there is hardly any of the classic exploration. absolotly crap!!! Jdiplock Out
My favorite is 'The Next Generation' followed by The original, then 'Deep Space Nine', then Voyager and lastly, the Animated series. I haven't seen enough of Enterprise to care. Enterprise isn't Star Treky enough for me. I like the Next Generation most because of it's characters, and the ship. The thing that draws you to the show in the first place is the ship, characters come second. I fell in love with the whole Galaxy-class space frame. It's a really well designed ship. I'd also like to point out my favorite Star Trek episode ever was "Best of Both Worlds I and II." I felt that only one thing was lacking there - they should have shown a brief fleet battle...but the first episode of Deep Space Nine makes up for that minor flaw. I like the original series secondly because of the storylines. Certianly not the acting, Shatner is a really goofy actor and all. Without the use of fancy special effects that TNG, DS9 and Voyager had, TOS managed to tell a good story most of the time. Then comes Deep Space Nine, I consider this show a conditional disappointment. Sure it gave the fans what they've been dying to see for 27 or so years - massive fleet battles. But when you add up the battle from "Sacrifice of the Angels" it's less than 2 minutes, of the 42 minute episode (including Opening but neglecting the ending mind you). I think they could have spent less time about "Weak eyes, good ears" and Dukat and Weyoun's intollarance for each other for just another minute or two of starships pounding the heck out of each other. Most of the time, the Defiant was center stage, except for a brief, and VERY worthwhile shot of two Galaxy-class ships pouinding on a hapless Galor (the Galor deserved it, it killed two or three Mirandas!). After that, we did get "Tears of the Prophets", "The changing face of evil" and "What you leave behind" but they also were very short, and "What you leave behind" was 90% reused footage. Voyager - I can name all the good episodes on one hand. It was just poorly written and despite the special effects budget they had, they usually insisted on the "fire phasers" "phasers firing...no damage" effect, rather than "fire phasers" *External view of Voyager firing phasers* At least TOS made a generic "fire phasers" image. TAS - It's ok, it had some memorable moments, such as the Tribble episode and "Kirk is a Jerk." But the animation is terrible - no form of shading whatsoever on the cels and vague shading in the background. The entire series is in solid colors.
Mine would be: The Next Generation Voyager Enterprise TOS DS9 The Animated series
For me, TNG encapsulates all that is good about Star Trek made well. It is not the fault of TOS that it was made in the sixties, nor is it TOS' fault that there wasn't a preceding series that could have set up a fanbase and franchise that would have allowed for a bigger budget and better actors and writers, but those are the advantages TNG had, and in general, they didn't waste it. Scientific advisors and a plethora of writers kept the ideas coming and coming well. We had new aliens, old aliens, the general feel of both existing structures and new ones to be found. The ship was the Federation in a nutshell, large, impressive and in control most of the time. The families on board, the continuing missions and everything help set up Star Trek both in a manner that was true to the original idea and yet was acceptable to a modern audience and had people going back to see the old series.
Voyager was what TOS should have been. The odd terrible episode, but in my own humble opnion, lots of very good ones - or at least ideas that worked or could have worked exceptionally well. There are things that should have been done to improve things - the ship was rather too self reliant and a bit better equiped than ever I expected. The lack of serious battle or truly repeating enemies was another. The Equinox had a lot of potential and the idea of sorting out that ship's mess on a planet it had reached before Voyager was not explored fully. But even so, a sterling effort.
Enterprise fills a gap. It is lower tech and enjoyable. I don't spend time cross-referencing star trek timelines every time an episode appears, I just watch for the sheer enjoyment factor. If they spaced Trip, I may even put this one higher up.
TOS, purely for the films and for setting the whole thing up.
DS9. Something I never really got into, inspite of being a battle scene fan. I suppose it is because all the episodes I wanted to watch - Trouble with Tribbles, Sacrifice of Angels etc - I have never actually seen. I watched episode after episode and learnt about every inch of Quark's bar and how that other young Ferengi is in competition with Sisko's son, and how Odo dislikes them and Kira makes for a good character, but nothing beyond general slow paced banter. Maybe I was unlucky in my choice of episodes to watch, but there we have it.
The animated series. Not into animation. Far more a live action person. Even badly done cgi can ruin a film for me (not mentionning any names - Sovereign on collision course with enemy in Insurrection with extremely flat lighting and colors...).
All personal preference of course.
why isnt enterprise up there?

Moved to Entertainment Added Enterprise to poll
I'd say voyager is best, I just liked the plot :)
Enterprise, although I've seen every episode of TNG and DS9, I prefer Enterprise because I've seen them when they're all brand new and it answers some unanswered questions. TNG is my second favourite because it has Worf, Data, Laforge and Picard.
The Original Series
TNG all the way... :naughty: :nodding:
Closely followed by DS9 and Enterprise...

I used to think that Voyager was the best. However, after I have bought all seasons of Deep Space Nine on DVD, I have to say that DS9 is by far the best. It has a great sense of continuity because whatever actions are taken will have consequesnces since the entire story is set on a station. Voyager had some great episodes but as a whole season it only became truely great after the fourth season when the Borg became they primary adversary. Deep Space Nine is good throughout all seven seasons with great political, religious, moral and entertaining episodes; the way Star Trek is supposed to be.
