Upon trying to load the game I just get a black screen with no sound which can only be gotten rid of with ctrl+alt+delete. It installed ok and I have been able to play the game before. I'm not sure exactly when the game stopped working, but I have updated the drivers and directx since it last worked.
My comp specs are: Pentium III 700MHz, 256ram, 15gig hard drive, directx 8.1, windows 98 and NVIDIA GeForce 256 graphics card.
I have updated sound and graphics drivers, tried re-installing, downloaded the patch and have 32bit true color and a screen area of 1024x768.
do you use some programs like power-srtip ..... if you do you have to set averything by defaults by preformace profile and only clock the mhz i hade the same problem to:rock:
I have this problem too... but it just came up AFTER importing some ships mods in the program... I am curious, do more people have this and were there even some people able to ressolve it?
I tried putting in the "foundation" plug-in and then installing the dominion battle cruiser and get nothing but a black screen with the gold cursor. Im pretty sure i put everything in the right spot, and there where a couple of folders that dont exist that i had to create.
anyones hepl would be greatly appreciated
I have also had the black screen problem and I think I have figured out at least part of the problem. When I try to add the Romulan Griffen class I get a message that BCMP is updating my system (I have beta 3.1) then when I add the ship I get a successful add message but when I try to load the game I get the black screen.
The only way that I have found to fix this is to uninstall and start from scratch! Oh well, third time's the charm, but I don't think I'll get to use the Griffen Class!
Don't know about the Dominion battle cruiser but it might be the same thing.
Well i worked on it and got the game to load up with the domion battle cruiser...its just when u go to quick battle and try to play, it says loading and then stays at the bridge...no killing...
Right now im trying to get the super start destroyer to work..but i am right back to the black screen again...the is #$%(%+#$#(@_$ pissing me off big time!!
Did you make sure you have the Mod Packager installed with that federation plug in installed? It sounds like that might be some of the problem with your plug-ins. It took me quite a bit of tinkering to get the other ships installed. By the way there is a good post on this forum about just what is involved with the add on ships.
The thing you say about the game hanging on the bridge sounds like what happened to me when I didn't have the federation plug in installed right. I downloaded the Mod Packager from this site or from bridge-commander.com and when I tried to use it, it told me that the plug in was not installed and then asked me if I wanted to install it. Once that happened, I was up and running.
Oh, one last tid bit - once you get the darn things installed you have to go to configuration \ modulations and enable all the options in order to see the ships in quick battle.
I hope at least one thing helps you get on your way.
Modpacker is a nice piece of programming but it's not 100% compatible with all ship models. Some ship models, like the Oberth class-Pegasus, need only the foundation plugin and the ship model files. If you install the modpacker these models will stop working, and if you try to reactivate their plugins using modpacker, the BC will brake resulting the "black screen and gold cursor" crash. You can get out of this, without reinstalling the entire game. By uninstalling the modpacker and reinstalling foundation files, BC should work fine again ...and you are free to continue your quest for compatible models.
Thanks for all your help, but it ended up being a problem with my sound card.
I've made the experience that the foundation plugin from the mod packager doesn't really work. If you are ask to install the foundation cancel and quit mod packager. Install the newest foundation by your own. The mod packager v3.1 and above need foundation version 20020530b or newer. I solved the problem in that way. Now I have no problems with installing new ships with the mod packager. Some times this problem comes again but then I know that the problem comes from the new ship. With the ModelPropertyEditor from SDK I check the ships and correct the problem.
