I've always had trouble when trying to get BC to run on multiplayer, and I always had to rely on QB to satisfy my needs. I used to put it down to a crappy internet connection which was below 56k. But now I have 512 broadband. I have tried disabling my McAfee firewall to see if that solves the problem, but I still cannot connect up to multiplayer game (there isn't much choice, but the two currently availble on Gamespy don't want me to connect up. I get the LCARS screen telling me it's conecting, and that goes onto something about checksumming. However after this I either get a disconnected warning, or timed out message. I have tried both Gamespy and the function coming with BC in order to find games. What could I be doing wrong?

I have patched up to 1.1 (nothing higher though). Would it matte if BC is modded to high heaven?

Yes - you must have the same mods or lack of mods as the people you are playing with, otherwise it will not connect. Some games will have titles like "Clean" or "EOL" referring to clean installs (1.1, no foundation et al) or Enemies Of Life mod pack or such things. Search the forum for more info... there are many threads on this.
