The game will exit to windows for no reason after I get to Alioth when the other ships come in. I have ran the game with the patch and with out the patch and in different scree resolutions with no joy. I am running windows vista (gasp!) with an AMD 9850 CPU, 4GB of RAM and 9600 GT GPU. Any help, I am glad to find an active ST:BC group.
Did you have KM1.0 in your BC install?
I do not have KM1.0 before I DL it and use it, what does it do and will it help me?
Try this:
- go to your Activision/Bridge Commander folder, right click on stbc.exe and choose Properties
- go to Compatibility tab
- enable Compatibility mode and set it for Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or Windows 98 / Windows Me (try both)
- disable Desktop Composition
- enable running with Administrative priviledge level
- click OK, run the game directly from stbc.exe file and see what happens
No luck with that....
Try installing or copying BC to a directory other than program files, like e.g. C:\Games.
Edit: I just remembered that sometimes people could solve their mission crashes by playing the previous mission again and overwriting the savegame.
First off, could you provide us more details on the crash? Like any error messages, what happenes exactly on the screen right before the crash (like cinematic scenes, massive AI fleet appears, etc), maybe extreme temperature values if you can read them?
Try to modify other video options too, not only the resolution plus the audio options too! What mods are you using? Could be that you've modified/replaced a ship which supposed to show up at that part when the game crashes? I know it's possibly the most basic advice, but did you try to reinstall the game? Backup your saved games, reinstall the game, so you'll have a clean install to start with.
Did you experience such crashes in other games aswell?
I am not running any mods and the error I get is the program has stopped working or some sort of generic error like that, next time I run it I will write it down. I have done a clean re installed the game, played it with out the patch and with the patch and the game exits to windows. I will try to play the previous mission, then play the one that crashes and play with the settings some...
Thanks for all the help so far... Also, does any one know of an active SFC:Orion Pirates message board?
OK it looks like I solved my problem... I set the sound quality to low and replayed the last mission before the one that makes BC crash... The error message I got was STBC has stopped working, not a lot of help....
Thanks for all of the help, now if I can get Orion Pirates to work better...
I'm glad to hear your problem seems to be solved! Audio issue could very well be the reason behind the crash, Vista has uber crappy audio support, and it even more often occurs if you're playing a relatively old game. If 'Hardware mixing' option is available, try to change it too, preferably set to 'off' .
If you're messing around with the options step by step, you'll most likely be able to find a setting which offers acceptable quality and stable gameplay :)
About the SFC:Orion Pirates message board, sorry but I can't help in that myself.
