I successfully installed Bridge Commander on Linux when I used Transgaming's Point2Point and installed Cedega (formerly WineX) with that and also after having Cedega install the Microsoft Core Fonts. I tried to install it from Cedega directly and it (the BC installer) would crash about half-way through the installation.

The game will start from Point2Point but the screen goes completely black and then KDE crashes. Something similar happened when I installed the game under Win98 but I was able to start the game after reinstalling my sound drivers.

Does anyone think there should be a Linux section in GamingForums? More games are being made for Linux (or ported) and it seems Linux is being taken more seriously now as a gaming platform. I play Unreal Tournament 2004 on Linux and it runs at least as well on Linux as on Windows though Atari does not officially support it. I think that's a little odd since they put a penguin on the box.

Moved to help forum, although to be honest, I doubt anyone will be able to help with such an unusual set up.

What makes you so sure, that KDE crashed?
In a perfectly fair, no time constraints, everyone is balanced & erudite, world - then yes. However the reality of the case is that Linux gaming is still not supported generally & so this is what you will find for the overriding number of games. The reason things like UT2004 having Linux versions is more to do with developers favouring Linux as a dev platform & nVidia helping them out with drivers so that this is the case. Also I believe nVidia is behind OpenGL as an alternative to MS DX libraries. You are more likely to find useful information by heading to Linux sites & heading for their cross-over apps & games section for this one. Most gamers have very little time / have no urge to become knowledgeable about Windows troubleshooting never mind Linux. As regards the penguin. If his weight is preventing you from opening the box then take him off it.
I think that's a little odd since they put a penguin on the box.

What makes you sure that Linux users knows the game Bridge Commander? All what most Linux users can say to this is try the original Wine or transgamings WineX. If it does not work, my yourself familar with Wine and help get it working.

However I was not very successful with WineX CVS or wine from winehq. I can see the .bik Videos playing but thats all, The mainmenu only showed me some bad colors. But my X-Server nor my wm crashed. Just switch to the console, login and type 'killall wine' - or well 'killall cedega'.

If you thought I was saying that all users of Linux are gamer & or are likely to have attempted this then you misunderstood. Since you trying to get this running on a Linux setup I would put it to you that this is something which users of Linux & some form of cross app will have attempted. If it is possible to get this to work under Linux then some Linux user out there is using it right now. From all the Linux users around the globe there must be one that is a Star Trek fan & wanted to play this title on his Linux installation. That Linux user is far more lilkely to frequent Linux forums than he is this mainly Windows & console centric forum. Don't you think? As the mod said & he should know the general user of these forums it is something that would be very rare for users of this forum to even consider. Good luck with finding the right info, patches & when you do please post the info back on here to sort out anyone else who decides to attempt the same thing in future.
Infact Bridge Commander & a few other games are the only reasons why I still have XP installed. However, the_lynx_effect from the BCU Forum is the only one I know that had some luck BC running.

I don't even know many Linux users that are reading forums.

As you said the general user. However there are still people that are unlike the general user.

If there are Linux users playing Bridge Commander under Linux they will know bcfiles.com. And with bcfiles they will know - and watch - this Forum. So he will have a higher chance of getting a reply here. However if he does now c++ and he wants to make productive posts to wine he would have used the wine Mailing list.

While not 'given' in terms of truth those were evidently good & valid points. For example I frequented RTCWfiles for files etc. but never even clicked a link to these forums for years. There are is equally a chance that a guy that knows what he is doing will just pull the files he needs from the site & get on with playing & then get back to working with Linux since he has nothing to hold him back. Why stop in here?:uhm: Were off-topic going into human behaviour patterns of the knowledgeable Linux Win game installer, but I do see your point.;)

Are you a Linux user? Well most Linux users I know are always exploring the whole website and - if the question is good and justified - will answer. About coming back...here, bcfiles always gets good Mod updates that forces people to come back. And you always see the "Latest Forum Threads" in the upper right of the site. (okok only while it is working) And if there is a Thread with Linux in the title, Linux users will see it, believe me.

Last but not least I'm watching bcfiles.com and this Forum from the very first beginning and never saw anyone reporting this game working.

Anyway I don't have much hope that we see this game running cause this is a DX8 game, written in visual c++.
