Ok, I'm very new to modding BC, so please bear with me. I'm mainly interested in adding new ships to the game. I very much liked the simple all-in-one mod package offered for SFC3, but apparently, its not so easy with this game. I have downloaded both BCMI.net and BC Mod packager. They both seem to work just fine. I followed the directions for updating the computer before downloading these programs. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to actually import the darn new ships into the game!! The vague download directions sound so easy but don't really get you anywhere. Example: I downloaded the Kaison ship and unzipped it into its own folder. I then right clicked and copied each folder and then pasted it into the corresponding data, script, and sfx folders for the game. I simply opended up the data folder for BC and then right clicked and pasted the Kaison data folder I just copied. Have I done this right so far?? If not, what am I doing wrong? If I'm right, what the heck do I do from here? I opened up the bc mod packager but I don't see the Kaison file and don't know what I'm really supposed to do even if I could find it. Can anyone give me step-by-step directions on how to do this?? Or should I be using bcmi.net?? I'm so confused and frustrated and all I want is to enjoy the darn awesome ships you guys have created!! Please someone, take pity on a newbie and help me out!!

you need to follow the file paths inside the .zip and install everything to its proper folder then import using BCMP (there is a built-in help feature that can walk you through that) BCMI is the easier program. if the .zip contains a .BCmod file just open it using BCMI and let the computer do the rest, these are like the all in one installs you mentioned

Use the same installation process that you have done with the SFC3 mods. When your dealing with a regularly .zip folder. The BCMI mods are a easy "one click" process. The mod files will be automatically installed for you. Most prefer to do a manual install, because they can see where all the files are going. But mis-installation will give you the following...

1.) Placing the script/Ship .py in the ship/Custom/Ship folder and vice a versa. This will give you a Black Screen with Gold curser.

2.) Make sure you place the open .zip folder/files to thier corresponding folders. By having 2 seperate windows open. One to the open zip and on to the install. Keep the newly open mod folder a small window. And keep the install window at maximum. Take your time in doing this. Rushing a Manual installation will be the source of many headaches.

When I started to download mods way back, I had the same troubles. But having been a old SFC2/OP die hard, I noticed the folder pathways were similar. You'll get the hang of it. :smokin:

if you want a major ship pack that'll make life easier for you because of it's self-installer, try Enemies of Life or Dark Gunman's Improvements pack... they have a bunch of ships, and they installer will do all of the work for you :)

P.S. make sure it have glows or the people here will never let you hear the end of it:D

Thanks guys for all the info. I know most get aggravated when newbies come in with the same old questions. I finally figured out how to import via the mod packager and I think I have bcmi.net workin, although I still had to use the mod packager after supposedly installing via bcmi. I just didn't have to do the tedious moving of all the file folders.

Question: Do all these mods only work in the quick battle scenario or can you use the ships in the actual episodes? If you can use it in the episodes, how do you choose the ship? Also, has anyone noticed a problem with the Sulliban stealthcruiser? Everytime I tried to use that ship and pit it against the enterprise shuttle, the whole game would shut down. However, I had no problem using it as an enemy ship in the battle.

Also, anyone know of any upcoming Vulcan ships? The Salek cruiser is awesome and very powerful. I'd like to see the smaller cruiser as well. I'd also like to see the Reptilian, Arboreal, and humanoid small ship form the Xindi conflict. Anyone making these? I sure hope so!! Oh yea, what about the Andorian warships?? I'd love to recreate the battle recently seen on Enterprise.

There is a modifcation to allow for Defiant or Voyager to be used in player missions but realize that all ships of the same class as the sovereign will replaced by the ship you're flying by modification.

The other modds cannot be used except in this fashion

Note some ship modds will replace the game model in favor of the modication as you likely have seen.

We have a ship request thread at the top of the modding forum for these requests. [QUOTE=Saquist] Eliminster know all......
