Phoenix_22;4941377Hey all,

I haven't touched BC in probably 2 years, but recently started looking over the new mods for the game and have wanted to fire it up again.

The problem I'm having is that while doing the setup, it freezes on a sfx file (Episode 3, Mission 2 I think) and comes up with an error message shortly after and crashes.

In XP I did not have any problems, but I've read Vista can be a bit trickier, and would appreciate any help you can give.

Some specs, although I don't think the specs are the problem:

Windows Vista SP1 Intel CPU T2300 1.66 GHz 2.0 GB RAM Plenty of free HD space

And yes, I know the specs aren't great, but it should run low-res BC without a hitch.

Also, have things changed for the modding thing? Or is it still the same BCMP and BCMI, Quick Battle Replacement (test mode?) that it was a while back?

I have Vista, and had experienced this problem. You will need to change the property of your BC Application in your install and the BC Icon on your desktop to "Run As Administrator" I have done this with no problems. I know my BC Install is more modded than most. This should clear up your problem.

Evidently, Vista has problems with running older PC games outright.

milenent;4945299Try to install the DEMO game and if it runs it is not from Vista. If that error apears again it's from it. P.S. I have Windows 7 and runs justo outside perfect. P.S.S. Sorry for my bad English.[/QUOTE]

Tried both of these solutions and unfortunately, no luck.

Perhaps I did the run as administrator part wrong though, the only way I could get it to run as administrator was by copying the disk location as a shortcut and then saying run the setup program as admin. It seems to be getting hung up on the same two files (this time it went back to the original problem file).

If your going to play the Bridge Commander using single player? Always make sure you installed the BC 1.1 Patch. The patch has corrections for some single player missions. This may be a useful mod for you also....

* BC Super Mod v.3.0 by Captain Russell BC Supermod 3, Bridge Commander Downloads, Bridge Commander Multi-race Ship Packs

This will allow you to play Single Player (enhanced) with a better grade of ship models. Though this mod is not for a "lightweight" rig. I would suggest you make a separate install devoted just for this mod. Overall once BC is modified, it makes Single Player notoriously unstable. But, If your in a SFC frame of mind with added functionality? I would suggest this mods....

* Galaxy Charts v.1.0 by USS_Frontier Galaxy Charts, Bridge Commander Downloads, Bridge Commander Modifications

* Deep Space Nine FX v.3.0 by USS_Sovereign [BCS-TNG] Deep Space Nine FX, Bridge Commander Downloads, Bridge Commander Modifications

* BCS: The Beginning | BCS-TNG BCS: The Beginning | BCS:TNG

Cheers,

Got it to work, via a crude method, lol. When it got hung up on a file, I just opened up the disk drive and then closed it again. I don't know if it skipped the file or not, but it went on to complete the install without a hitch. :)

Now onto the modding...

Thanks for the help everyone!
