I have BMCI.NET, and you were right about the program installing the mod files to another directory. I customized the BCMI install to the Bridge Commander folder. I then installed P81's NCC-1701-A. The files were installed into the script and data files respectively. I ran BC and the ship appears under the Federation list of ships, but there's no image, no description, and the game crashes when I load the ship in QB. I also tried installing P81's Kvort. There is a ship description, no image, and no luck getting QB to run with this mod either. I am a little lost at this point since BCMI is supposed to do all the work for you. Were else could the problem be occuring? Can I install the mods manually by extracting the script and data files to the right locations myself?
Did you get the lastest version of BCMI (.net) or are you still using the 1.1 version? As for the ships missing descriptions and icons in the menu screen that is a fairly common problem for third party ships. Most likely the problem right now is that your trying to install the ships using an outdated version of BCMI. As blurb23 pointed out any of the BCMI mods require at least 1.3 or higher. If you want to try manually installing the ships yourself use BCMI.net to extract them to an empty folder and then just move those extracted files to your BC directory.
The outdated abyss was the only place I could find BCMI 1.3. I already have BCMI Final which is BCMI.NET right? I also tried manually importing the ship files into BC. I wish I could say I got lucky, but I guess it's not in my deck of cards. I was also thinking of one more possible solution. Can I put the ship files in the Custom ship plugin folder? What files need to go there, and what files do I have to put in the BC folder itself?
Thats some tough luck your having.. Usually when things go this far south on me I start from scratch and install the mods I am having problems with first, and then I install the ones that were working ok after I made sure that I have pinpointed the problem. I would recommend uninstalling the game, deleting the BC directory and then reinstalling. Before making any changes to your BC directory (or after you've made changes that seem to be ok) make a copy of it so that if you do have any problems you wont have to reinstall, just revert to the backup you made. One thing I didnt ask, which almost shouldnt need to be asked, but I will just so all bases are covered; You did install the official BC patch before trying any of this right? You wouldnt need to for BC Infinity since that is only a texture pack and thats why you havent had any problems with it, but for any files which alter the scripts you will need the official patch.
I've re-installed BC and I also have the 1.1 patch. Yeah, things aren't looking bright here. Apparently, many other gamers on the board are having the same woes as me. I've been following all the advice and suggestions to no avail. Sometimes the mod files are simply corrupted or out of date. I am gonna take a break n rack my marbles. I actually like the game with the BC Infinity mod. They did a nice job with the music scheme and model retextures. I can live without new ships for now. P81 and the rest of the gang did such a great job on the Galaxy, but I was getting tired of such a great ship being restricted to using weak photon torpedoes. So, with that, I took the liberty of renaming a few files in the projectiles folder, and behold, my fed ships have quantum torpedoes and phased plasmas. This has led me in a new direction in editing BC. What else can I change by myself? What file/s can I edit or modify myself to change ship stats, description? Can I open files in wordpad/notepad and edit them, or do I need a hex editor? Thanks for all your help!
