Use the Locate tool in MPE. Press anywhere on the ship where you want your weapon to be. On the bottom of the screen, you will find numerical values. The values located on the bottom without the "Normal:" is what you need. In the Subsystem Property of your weapon, place these values under 3D Position. Place the first value in X, the second in Y and the third in Z.

Or just.... use the locate tool to select the place on the model, open up your phaser system to edit it, go to subsystem proertys, and click on "Get Position". that way it saves you time by automatically entering the numbers for you instead of you typing them in!.
