I've heard that it isn't possible (or verry verry hard) to make an animated voyagers armor. But i have an idea. Is it possible to link say 8 SODs together to give the effect of animation, so when u press the armor button it goes through the sods say 1 ever 1/2 a second or summat until u get the armor on voyager then if u press the de-armor button it goes back through th SODs in reverse. Maybe this is a stupid idea but it just came to me the other day so i thought id better see.

thats what im wondering, i can't think of a reason why it wont if you can get one to start the next after a ceratain amount of time. but i need to find out if anyone knows how to do that. if it works ill have a go of doing it myself if no-one else wants to, im not a very good modeler.

Okay. Lets see. I'm not going to say either way whether this is possible or not possible, due to the fact that its been proven enough times that things can be modded. However, in my own view I would say "no". What I'll do is pass this thread over to Westworld. As one of the best "old time" modders theres ever been he might be able to shed a little bit of light on the matter. As it stands I'm not strictly the best person to ask as special weapons are something I have limited knowledge of.

Hmmmm, quick edit time. A roundabout way of doing this might be the following:

1) Make a specilised model with additional "pods" attached at specified places on the hull. 2) To these pods use some sort of research to "make" and armour section so that it covers a piece of the model.

It may sound strange but looking at it from a stand point, it might be possible. Only problem is this would be a manually researched item, and not a special weapon. It would generally only work on a single model which uses this method as well. As for a timed version. Thats another matter entirely.

You could have two seperate sods. The normal Intrepid sod and one animated. When you hit the armour deploy botton the ship will switch to the Armour Intrepid sod and have the armour animated into the sod to deploy but not having the animation loop would be the trick. But, then agian I don't have the big time modeller programs and this is just a theory.

Well, I did toy with this for a bit, at someone's request, a while ago. Unfortunately the idea you have will not work, basically because there is no way to link the sods together the way you suggest. Now what I originally tried, which was a similar idea but all in 2 sods, the sods were animated to look like the armor coming on and off. Using a fusion weapon to activate the animation and change the sod to an armored version of the first model.

so it went like this: 1. activate fusion weapon 2. weapon activates animation in sod 1 (unarmored version with armor deploying animation) 3. fusion weapon changes ship from sod 1 to sod 2 (sod 2 armored ship with animated armor retraction) 4. Sod 2 also has a fusion weapon, working the opposite way.

Now, this method basically worked, but the model I used (not my model) didn't have the greatest animation in it, and controlling the animation speed and play time was difficult, it did not look as good as it could have. The main problem is the animation in the sod, since Armada does not support face or vertex animation, only scaling and model part animation, it is hard to animate the armor in one sod. I do not think that animated armor would be a completely impossible thing to do, I could probably do it if I had a good model to start with (I stink at making Star Trek models or I would have done it already), and added the animation myself starting from scratch, since the first time I tried I was using someone else's model and animation. I don't mind using someone else's model but I would have to do the animation myself to get it to work the way I hoped it would.

If someone has a nice Intrepid model & texture in max format and would like to send it to me to work with, I wouldn't mind having a go at making the animated armor, it should be possible to do.

Unfortunatly im rather rubbish at making models and even worse at textures so unfortunatly i wont be able to help (as well as only having milkshape and i dont know if you can export to a max file) but maybe someone else could help.

I see what you are trying to do, from my point of view it would be vary anoing trying to get this to work. I personaly can't say if it would work or not. I have been looking for an editor to create sods, I dont have the mony to get the BIG ones, do you know whare to get one? I personaly have had some experiance in creating custom special weapons. Not copying them from the game and renaming them. But I need a sod editor to create the best effects. Can ou help?
