Hi all.

i was wondering if someone can tell me if there is a mod for Armada2. that has both star trek and starwars sides that are playable against each other.

sofar i've downloaded afew that say both sides are playable but when you play one side is playable, either the starswars or the startrek.

Can anyone help? All i wanna do is send a Imperial fleet against a Federation or Borg fleet. *cries out, stamping feet about*

Most (if not all) ST v SW mods use only two races: Federation and Borg. The Borg race is used for the Imperial side and the Federation is used for the Rebel Alliance. Since you cannot have two Federation sides at the same time (i.e. two kinds of Federation sides...either ST or SW), you won't see a Defiant taking on a Corellian ship (darn!).

However, there IS a way to get the Federation and Borg from ST to fight the Federation and Borg of SW. It requires a lot of modding experience (well, some at least) and a lot of patience. Take the SW Feds and Borg and copy all of their .odf files to a temporary folder. In the fed.odf, change the race name (the displayName) to federations (note the S at the end). Now, copy all the GUIs from the UNMODDED Armada II into that temporary folder. Do this also for the AIPs and CFGs. Rename all GUI_FED to GUI_FEDS and reflect this change in the fed.odf file (instead of GUI_FED, replace it with GUI_FEDS). Rename all AIPs with "federation" in the title (it may say "fed"...my version of A2 is VERY heavily modded) with "federations" (or "feds"). Perform a similar change with the CFG files (these are found in the MISC folder).

Now, as it stands now, there are two Federation sides: a heavily powered Alliance and a seriously underpowered Starfleet. Playing the game would not be nearly as much fun if you could simply run roughshod over one side using fighters (though it would be pretty cool, seeing an X-wing take out a Sovereign). But all of the aforementioned steps should get you going in the right direction. You can add ships as you like, making the appropriate changes in the techtree and AIPs. Note that this should work equally well for the Borg (the Collective versus the Empire).

For more information (as well as a check for accuracy), consult Westworld's Big Book of Modding (it contains detailed info about adding a new race...since I don't want to confuse everyone, I had the stock Federation interfaces and configuration files transferred rather than have you make brand-new ones).

A few things I forgot to mention in my above post...

1) Every Starfleet ship will have to have its race name (i.e. race = ) changed to "federations" if you want this to be truly unique (otherwise you will end up with the Rebel interface and have Starfleet ships along with Rebel vessels).

2) You could also rename all Alliance and Empire vessels, AIPs, CFGs, and GUIs to "rebels" and "imperials". The method for doing so is similar to the one above but just make sure you are modding the correct Federation (the Rebel files, not the Starfleet ones).

3) When using the AI lists, it seems that the techtree must agree with the order in which something is built (i.e. you can't build an ISD without an ISD yard so there's no point trying to make the AI build one without its appropriate facility already in place).

4) Some or all of this might not work as planned...remember to change ALL files and above all, back up all important files in case you screw up!!! (this way, you still have something to work with and you're not starting over from scratch).

5) Remember to update the GUI_GLOBAL files as well (with regards to race icons...this is found at the bottom of the file)

6) Remember to update the weapons.spr file as needed (Starfleet and Borg ships won't need any updates unless they've been modded but the Rebels and Imperials use markedly unique weapons sprites and these must be reflected in the sprite table).

A final thought: it is also possible that the advice I have given you is (shudder) wrong. If it is incorrect, I would appreciate a post telling me what went wrong (after all, I don't want to repeat my mistakes). That's why I suggest, nay, demand (okay, SUGGEST) that you back up all files before proceeding.

Hope this is helpful and not just a waste of space.
