it happens alot to me too. i like to play around with them. then they give up! i know it has something to do with the computer AI files.

so does anyone no how to keep them from surrendering? after iv got them beaten they always just give up. i prefer to hunt them down to the last ship.

they destroy everything they have. alot of times they do it for no apparent reason. at least they do that in swfc.

I suspect that there is a strange little checksum hidden in the source code that forces the AI to give itself up. The formula required for this checksum is likely to be ridiculously complex and varies from situation to situation (overwhelming forces and no more resources doesn't seem to trigger this...overwhelming losses within a very short period of time does seem to play a role).

Once, when I was Species 8472, I used eight Psychosis "wakes" and the Klingon AI surrendered. They had effectively lost control of all their vessels and stations so perhaps that is the elusive answer (when the going gets tough, the AI quits...or cheats, in some cases).
