Well I've downloaded some pretty cool looking skins, but they don't what to work! I've done everything that I'm supposed to... download completely, extracted all of the contense into the base folder in the Lucas Arts folder, and I've made sure that the server that I'm playing on supports those skins and... nothing. Could it be my ISP (only 56k dial-up)
nah, try this:
Start the jk2mp.exe, then make a server (not a dedictated one), then start the server (the map will load etc, like if you play with bots), then the skin selection screen comes up, your skins should be shown, if they dont show up
give me a link to the skins and I'll have a look ;)

Nothing more to say.
If you can't get all the links, at least get links to the one's you find that are the worst. I think it's something to do with JK2, maybe a required file was (missplaced). Have you tried reinstalling it?
http://jk2files.com/file.info?ID=13559 well there it is my clan server supports them and ppl use them all the time
can you see other ppl using them ??
I downloaded the skin pack and every skin has a icon_default.jpg file, hmmm
Are you playing team games ?? or ffa ??
did you set all your skins to default, so you see all the default skins and not the team skins ??
well the server is ffa and i leave the settings on default... and still nothing

If your skins (or models) do not show up in the selection screen there is another possible explanation.
Quite simple really; there is a finite limit to the number of skins that will show up in the selection screen. Even though the .pk3 file may be present in the base folder, if there are too many in the folder, the most recently added will not show up.
The same is true if you have too many custom maps in the base folder; you won't be able to select them from the map menu. You would be surprised at how quickly you can arrive at this state of affairs. Just be patient, try removing a whole bunch of custom models/skins from the base folder in order to try out the new ones.
In extremis, if u got too many skins, the game can actually hang at the game start screen, cos in orderto be able to add bots in game it has to load them all before it starts. If this happens and your game starts up but seems to hang at the start screen with the bar at the bottom, just check this out by bringing down the console and you might see the loading procedure has stopped with the comment " parsed 115 bots...." ( or something resembling this).
i have no other skins in the base folder... still nothing
if you can see other ppl using them, access the models through console open console and type /model modelname of course, modelname must be the name of the skin/model you want to use
