when i host a dedicated internet game is there any way i can choose my own ip for the game? only reason is that the server is temporary and it will be easier for me to keep the ip the same instead of it always changing. cheers.

It will stay the same only if you have DSL if you have 56k it will change everytime you reconnect to the net.

I have a 1Mb cable connection from NTL.

My IP changes around every two weeks, but it seems (Not paid THAT much attention) that there are about 4 IP address in some kinda rotation, eventually I see a familiar one come back again.

Back to the point...

I emailed NTL and asked for a fixed IP but they tell me they can't do this and I should get a DNS server (what ever that is)

This is just a little rant:

But now NTL offer a service for X-Box Live users, with.... Wait for it.... A FIXED IP address.

But I'd have to pay more to have a fixed one, as its actually another IP seperate from the PC one.

You can't choose what your IP is. your IP is like your Computer address.

The way (its a wierd way..) I check what MY IP is (if you have) AIM open a message with anybody, right-click > Insert > IP Address and that is YOUR IP address.
