I tried logging on to the JK2F server today (I've never actually played JK2 MP... when I bought the game I had a crappy PC, and now that I have a less crappy PC that it's actually worth playing MP on, I'm addicted to Counter-Strike), and after about 5 seconds of play, it would come up with some wacky sound error; I couldn't think of anything that could be wrong, until I realized I didn't have the JA Mod, so I figured it was my best shot at getting on and owning Auto :D. I did the DL three times form FileFront, and each time WinSuc--er, Zip was unable to open it, so I tried PlanetWhatever, which still refused to give me the file. JKII.net doesn't even have it. Am I right that the sound error is caused by my lack of mod, or is it just Auto h4x0ring me?
The error has been different each time, but this time it is: S_RegisterSound: Sound name exceeds MAX_QPATH - n/DarthFruitcake/t/0/model/weeq
The S_RegisterSound: part is always there, but the other half seems to change. Also, this time, I wasn't even able to get into the server before MP closed.
S_RegisterSound: empty name this time...
OK, apparently JA is a server-side only mod, and I'm just stupid. So what is going on with the sound errors?
Yup, I've destroyed your game lol. I don't know, but I can do this. HEY PEOPLE! Help fruitcake now or I'll ban you all. ;)
You just want them to help me so you can pwn this poor n00b... :(
Besides, no one is going to answer... there's about three threads with the same problem on this page alone. No one loves me.
Hmm.. I'm not sure what the error is.. but if you get the MAX_QPATH error it means that the directory name is too long for JK2 to handle. Mostly because JK2 is (by default) installed to a long directory (c:/program files/lucasarts/jedi knightblahblah) so one way to fix this is to install JK2 to something simple like 'c:/jk2'. Or change the pk3 files so the paths within it are smaller..
All I can help with is to look through any files you downloaded (skins/models with new taunts/sounds) and tyr moving them out of the 'base' directory and see if this is the problem. Tedious, I know, but as of now it is the only solution :)
Anyway, I haven't played JK2 MP since.. April 2002! lol, working at JK2Files I never even had the time to get into the whole MP scene. I might hope into the JK2Files server to see what's happening.. though I'm pretty bad at the game.. hehehehe
Sweet, someone I can [probably] own! :D
I'm just going to reinstall JKII directly to the C: Drive, cuz I'm too lazy to do all that shyte...
