Mods/ Admins, please sticky this, we need people to read it, a lot of people. Please... Hi. Ok, look, this is NOT a modding/ mapping thread (well, sorta), BUT PLEASE READ ANYWAY! Lets start with the fact that EF2 is dieing. The reason being that Ritual didn't release the modding/mapping tools early enough. LOOK, THAT IS THE PAST! WE CAN'T CHANGE THAT! BUT WITH ENOUGH WORK, WE CAN BRING EF2 BACK TO LIFE! What we need is for all the good (and bad) modders/mappers to KEEP MAKING EF2MAPS AND MODS! And try inspire new people to help, by starting out on mapping... With work, we can make the EF2 servers explode with new and good maps and mods, we can bring it back from the dead. PLEASE STOP QUITING! I myself am trying to release at least 1 map every month, I have one almost finished right now. I have delayed the Irish_Levithian map till later, till it gets popular again, at the moment, I am makeing CTF maps, I AM TRYING TO GET PEOPLE INTERESTED IN EF2 AGAIN! BUT I CAN NOT DO THIS ALONE! Other people must at least try to help. This will admitedly take a lot of hard work and effort, but I at least have faith in the remaining EF2 mapping/ modding community, WE CAN DO THIS PEOPLE! I KNOW WE CAN! :D AND ALL YOU PEOPLE THAT HAVE NEVER EVEN STARTED MAPPING OR MODDING FOR EF2, PLEASE START! IF YOU THINK YOU ARE BAD AT IT, WHO CARES! PUT IT ONLINE ANYWAYS! PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! Please do this, for EF2's sake and life, HELP ME!!!
Thanks for sticking it... PEOPLE READ THIS!!! PLEASE!!!

I have a question, why is it that no maps containing Sovereign or Excelsior-class ships have been made yet? One would think they would be obvious choices considering a large portion of EF2 has the Enterprise and the Dallas. On could concievibly think they would make good deathmatch AND rpg maps. Heck, put two Sovereigns or two Excelsiors in one map and you've got a CTF match to end all CTF matchs. I'm incapable of making such maps of my own (though I would like to learn once I'm finished college...if anyone knows a good way to teach it), otherwise I would have started on something like this a while back. With all due respect to the creators of the Serentity-B and Salem-A, those are fine maps, but EF1 is showing it's age. Even though those beautifully rendered maps look good, the characters that roam through them look a bit boxy by today's standards. EF2 seems to have been dead on arrival...the most creative thing that's been done are those annoying nude skins, which are just terrible. Where is a Martok skin? The voice actor for the old fat Klingon in EF2 was Martok in DS9, that'd be ideal to copy voices over. I mean, we've got Sisko, why not Martok? Those two were buds anyway!

You have to understand, that neither as a fragging game nor as a Star Trek game, EF2 can hold against its "enemies" The EF1 community is simply to big, too many good maps have been made for the game, EF2 simply can't hold against that. As a fragging game, both are dead, but that's because many people just don't like Star Trek. Thats all! They are more interested in things like UT2004, and I must say, as fragging game, UT2004 is really a lot better than both EF1 and EF2. In my opinion, EF1 is maintained alive by the RPG groups. Many RP groups have newly formed and they are constantly creating new great RP maps, just like the Serenity B and the Salem. An example for such a group is Star Trek Future Command (SFC)on www.futurecommand.s5.com. EF1 is not showing its age at all. ust look at the download section of effiles! How many new EF1 maps are made and how many EF2 maps? Even not RP-maps but CTF, FFA and other maps are being made. And with the new upcoming RPGX mod, EF2 can't even say that its weapons look better! Greetings, Jason Kelp
Yeah, I am starting to lose hope. I can't believe Activision and Viacom let this shit happen to EF2.

Hhhm. Maybe its also due to the strange texture/model formats that EF2 uses. I was trying to understand the structure of the game a bit but I wasn't even able to open the textures cause I never heard of this format.

Yeah, I know. The .dds files are kinda weird, But the game can also read the textures in .tga format as well. All the (few) custom textures in my maps (the newest of which I will send to you with in the next week, EXiT, probably) are all in .tga format and the game reads them fine. (My custom textures and just modifications of other origional textures.)

if you want to get people intrested in EF2, your best bet would be to do single player stuff, cuase the multiplayer part of the game is hopeless. Also, the mp on EF1 is awesome, thats the main reason why its still alive. but EF2's multiplayer was just bad, so im afraid it wont live much longer.
Yeah, I'm currently studing up on how to do SP stuff (scripting mostly), I am considering doing a SP mod.

I feel the reason for EF1's continued existance and EF2's short lifed mp life is simple.
EF1 has hundreds of maps to play on, and a huge community - who where all looking forward to EF2. However, even though EF2's SP was great, it's MP sucked.
EF1's MP simplely is far superour to EF2's, simple as plain fact.
I've looked at the EF2 source code to see if it cant be made more like EF1 (better), but the source code is a complete mess. So dont exsept any mods soon - and also because of the lawsuit between Activision and Paramount I dont think we can expect a EF2 patch soon...
For single player fun - EF2 For multi player fun - EF1
