I am going to attempt to change the Klingon Ion Cannon to make it like a disruptor beam weapon (like a phaser) for the Klingons, I am also gonna make it a light weapon, also I'm changing the color and possibly the sound of the weapon too...(also the name too).. I will need some pointers to how to make the texture and sound different...(i read the old topic "changing weapon textures" for reference so I know which things the game lets you do and don't)
well, you can easily change the textures and sound. to change the sound, you will have to open the SFCSounds.zip file in the Sound folder. Locate the sound for the IonCannon, it's easy to find. Then take the sound you want to change it to, make sure it's in 128 mhz FORCED JOINT STEREO, rename it to the sound you want to replace, then add it in the file, overwriting the old one. Make sure when you do it you don't compress it any, or the game won't read it. For the textures, that's easy. Locate the ion cannon texture in the folder and change it. Now, it will still be a heavy weapon, and it will take longer to charge. You can't change that about it. so making it a light weapon isn't exactly feesable.
I don't spend enough time here

u can change the charge rate, but i dont believe u can make it into a primary weapon
believe me, you can't change the charge rate. We've tried numerous times, it can't be done. the charge rates are hard coded into the game.
Thanks for the tips! (Off topic: Victory123, your sig pic isn't there anymore....)
Ummm... I can't do the texture...lotsa colors...All I was trying to do was make it green, its too hard for me....so I'll just do the sound thing, or mabey somebody can make the ion cannon textures green?
Yeah, our website went down today. We overloaded the bandwidth.. AK! And to get back on topic, I can do the texture for you.
Thanks! Can you change the name of the gun? or is that many of the things that's tight coded into the game?
you can change how the weapon reads in battle, but not how it reads in the refit screen.
I can't get the sound to be played in the game, it won't read it even if I already did "Store" it with WinRar...I had to convert the sound from Armada 1 (my choice for the replacement sound :D) (Wav to Mp3 convert.) (yes, the OSS Converter does do Forced Joint Stereo conversions..), I wonder if WinZip does a better job (or does 7-Zip?), or the sound can't be read...
