ok, pretty new to the modding thing here, and looking for info.

What i'm trying to do is add new weapons to the game. Dont need to add new models or anything - i'd just like to make 'copies' of current weapons in-game under new races. For instance, creating a new gravimetric torpedo that the federation uses. I know the default loadouts can be changed, and I know how to add new race options to the weapons in-game, but I dont want to edit the stats on a default weapon - i'd rather add a new one and not screw up the existing files.

If it helps any, I currently know how to: -add/edit ship hardpoints in .gf files -edit the defaultcore and defaultloadout files -add/edit ship models and textures

The only way you can let another race use a weapon is to go into the commonsettings folder, and go to the weaponitem.gf file. Go to the weapon you want to add to a race, go to the race line, and add an F for feds R for Rom, K, for Kil. and B for Borg. You can't change the weapon in anyway for race A and and have it to be different for race B.

I think he's looking to add a new weapon, and for the sake of ease, just use another one as the template. I am trying to do this as well. I've added a new weapon to the weps.gf files and added the text into the scripts file. Also inserteted it anywhere I saw the template weapon. Trying to make an enchanced verion of the Pulse phaser. One more like the actual one. Granted we'd need to figure out that all important refire rate question I see on the boards. Just wondering if anyone has added a new weapon to the game. Not just renamed, or allowed another race to use it. I've done all those, but would like an experimental weaopn on my experimental ship. Would even add the no refit restriction so it was only on that one ship. I suspect that adding a new weapon is far more indepth process involving non-text based files hidden elsewhere. B/c u would need to include refire rate, the animations it used, etc. Would love to find a way to do this. Modding this game and testing out the creations is great fun :)

You can't add new weapons to the game, it's hard-coded into the exe apparently...
