I was just thinking about making a mod that would only replace the stock ship models with newer, better ones. I may work the hardpoints around and make the Sovereign's firepower what it actually should be. I would also include some more pirate ships as well, and widen the firing arcs of all the ships too.:D However, I can't get 3ds max 6 to work on Windows '98 so I won't be the one making the ships.:( I'm wanting to design this for those who don't want a huge mod, but that they just want something to start out with and mod it as they go. What do y'all think?
Brilliant idea. Basically everyone that I've ever talked to about the game have immediately wanted to at least replace the stock ships with better models and possibly better weapons arcs, but yet don't want to go full mod right off the bat. I'd say this is an incredibly brilliant idea, and I wonder why no one ever thought about it sooner. Who knows where the SFC3 community would be today if someone released a mod like this long time ago.
Or better yet why not try out GAW?
RojanOr better yet why not try out GAW?
Generations at war is a full mod which adds on the Dominion race. The mod I'm going to build is just going to replace the ugly, stock ships with great looking ones. This mod is for those looking for something easy to begin with. Also GAW has too much firepower on the ships in my opinion.
GAW is a total conversion. I know when I first got the game, and looked around for new ships to put into my game, I really didn't know what to do. I came across a ship pack that was self installing, although it tended to crash the game. But the thing was I didn't want to try out a full mod just yet, and I believe many people feel the same way. Also, I have seen a couple people on these forums that don't particularly like full conversion mods because they want to play the game as it came, with the exception of some ships they add here and there. So a stock ship replacement mod would be perfect for these type of people because all that's really being done is that the stock ships in game are being replaced with better looking models.
GAW is a great mod, but there are some terrible things in it that totally ruin the whole game. For Example it's not very realistic that a Constitution class becomes attacked by the Scimitar. And the game was designed to have the Federation and the Klingons against the Romulans and the Borg, but in most mods those races are put together in a single alliance, and the Borg become replaced by the dominion or other fictonal races. So please make this replacement mod, maybe add a few ships per race (but make them belong to the race, please don't add a Mirak ship to the Klingons), as I hate the stock ships but without them the original campaign is unplayable.
I swear I looged in and posted here but my post is missing-hope this isn'rt a double post.
This type of replacement mod was done over a year ago by Scorpian. He used P81 and Atahasis ships mostly. Replaced most all stock ships, sorry I don't have his site link but someon in the model forum over at the new Dynaverse forum. Ask ModelsPlease(thats his screen name lol-) he knows the link.
Lame -it won't let me post the link . I am not advertising as I didn't do the mod.
Saffiplease don't add a Mirak ship to the Klingons),
I don't intend to, that feature was unique to GAW, plus I didn't really like it either.SaffiSo please make this replacement mod, maybe add a few ships per raceI am going to add some TNG canon ships such as the Miranda class for the feds and the Valdore (gotta have the Valdore) to the Romulans, etc.
This type of replacement mod was done over a year ago by Scorpian. Did he widen the arcs?
Ok, just wanting to show y'all what I'm tryin' to get this mod to do. Here's some screenshots of the Sovereign class's new weapons layout and arcs, which reflects what I think is what the ship had in Star Trek: Nemesis (and if you watched the battle scene of Nemesis as many times as I did you'd agree:D).
Those are great soveriegn arcs!
