 Planet Additions: Ok – I’ve added planets to the core and default files expanding the existing ClassM and ClassZ (as ClassY, ClassC, etc.) Problem I have is that when I do a survey mission the planet is missing. I checked the Invalid Ship folder and I did have a couple of the planets with overloaded shield space (which I fixed) but the planets still did not show up. Is there a metaassets file I need to modify to get the game to see these additions?

The mission scripts were coded to use Class M and Class Z planets. You need to either write new missions, or replace existed planets.

Could you simply add more class M and Z planets?

No Yochenhsieh is correct. I had my wife look at it and she determined the same thing. They are hard coded into the scripts…and I don’t know how to write new scripts or want to write new scripts for an old game. However you can change the planet names in the MetaAssets folder that show up in game and yes you can add additional planets in the outload file but the game mostly ignores them anyway relying on the default coded ones.:( Edit - but the game will see changes to the model files. I've added a system (several planets in same hex) and an early formation planet.
