Yes, SFCIII does not recognize Direct X 11. You need to completely remove all traces of Direct X 11 off of your computer to include any cache files. This is the reason SFCIII keeps trying to search for the older version of Direct X (but DON'T INSTALL Direct 8 either).

Reinstall Starfleet Command III on your computer (do not install Game Spy or Dirext X 8). Go here to install the patch for the game: sfc3 beta patch v534_b ( all languages) 534_b Download, Starfleet Command III Patches. It will have Direct X 9.0c. This will allow SFC III to run properly. Any games you have that require a later version of Direct X will typically update to the latest version of Direct X, but SFC III will identify the version you first installed on your computer, in this case 9.0c, which it requires to run.

Also, because you have Vista, you may need to disable the visual themes manually once the game is installed. Right click on you SFCIII icon. Go to properties and then compatibility. Make sure "disable visual themes" is checked. 7 is suppose to be backward compatible, but I wouldn't hold your breath. You can always go to: and see if SFC III will operate on Windows 7.

Hope this helps.
