Right heres the deal. I have had this game for.... a long time. And for the last 2 years or so it hasn't been loading because it keeps asking for "DirectX 8.1". Now I know I have DirectX 9.0 (no idea which type) because I play other games that use 9.0 and they work fine, and Star Trek still will not work. I have also followed the instructions given in the other thread about this problem and they did not help either.

Oh yea one more thing. If I try and install DirectX 8.1 from the disk it opens the progress bar for a split second and then says its finished. Now obviously it hasn't done anything or it would of thought about it and it would of taken a few minutes. So please please please help me with this problem. I dont know what else to do.

Thanks in advance.

Directx8.1 was developed to be used exclusivly with windows 2000 so with any other type of windows it will not work and believe me i have tried with 98 and xp. So the only thing that i can say to this subject is that you download the dx9fix into your sfc3 file and then trie again.

Did Robione say that he tried the patch? Did he say it failed? The 534b patch never fails. And in all possible circumstances, the dx9fix should NOT be a first recommendation to any user who wants to play sfc3. Please READ the ENTIRE sticky posts of this board for troubleshhoting and patch information BEFORE asking same questions again and again.

Mr.Yochenhsieh you were absolutely right about this and i am sorry if i made you angry. I overlooked the 543b patch cause i thought that he already used it. Maybe i should leave the thinking to a horse cause it has a bigger head.

I didn't say it failed i said it did not seem to do anything. lol. But thanks to my limited computer skills and endless time on this stupid machine i have fixed it and am now playing SFC 3 for the first time in well over 2 years! :)! YAY!! Thanks guys you were a great help!

just to add my two cents.... I just went to Direct X website, downloaded X10, installed the game, then the patch and then the mod I wanted and every thing worked just fine. The only suggestion I can make is that the game seems to work best with XP and make sure any virus software is paused or shut off durring the process.

That is good advice in any case.:bows:
