Question: when entering a hex, I notice that an AI can join an existing battle. Is there a way that I can join an existing battle when I move into a hex and an enemy is engaging one of my AI’s. Usually it won’t let you, because it says that the enemy AI is already in battle and you can’t attack it. Is there something I can change so I can come to the aid of my AI?

i would like to know this as well going on what you mentioned about the ai joining an existing battle, is there some way to make the ai that join a little weaker. sometimes whne you are a frigate attacking a frigate a dreadnaught comes to help them and it makes the battle impossible
That has to do with the economic/defense of the hex. But if the AI gets to, why can't I. There has to be a way.
I believe I figured it out, or at least the next best thing. For anyone who is interested you have to manipulate the AI percentages up (make the AI very aggressive) in the “goal” file. This file is found in your MetaAssets under SinglePlayer. I had to play around a bit to get the right balance, but now I can join AI battles, defend starbases (This is really cool, because you can lure larger capital ships closer to the base) and planets (as opposed to always attacking) and respond to freighter convoys that are under attack (warning you will get hammered big time on prestige if you loose too many of your convoy!). Real freak’n cool to have 5 or 6 starships with you – a real armada/squad as opposed to just having three ships*. However, you have to enter the hex and quickly join the battle before the enemy AI engages your AI otherwise it will not let you join the battle. *You can only do what I stated above as long as you don’t have the standard two AI with you. You have to be solo to make this work. Hope this helps those who want to jazz up the game action a bit.
