I think newbie treatment is often the eventual downfall of many games. Fortunatly, most of the games I've played are in tight-nit groups, with only a few lamers to spoil the fun (like the AvP community, despite the fact we're all a picky bunch).
I see wat you mean however even after we take time to teach them the basics they still come back and give us a hard time one key contributer to this is the term 'FFA' on some servers. I mean my clan server is an 'FFA' server but more often than not we will just talk have a few duels and generally have a good time. New people see the FFA and attack everything in sight.
Talkin of this I had just finished training a new person to JK2 and now he is better that me :( ah well such is life i suppose :D either that or i am gettin worse
But i do think we should take time out to help new people, i mean we were all new once, try and remember how it felt.

Well said Tyrannus. I do think that if someone refuses to listen to you telling them that they are laming, its against the rules etc, and keep doing it, then regardless of their skill level, the rules should be enforced. One of the great things about this community is that you can pick who to fight and when, its not just a dull run-around-and-kill-things game like many others. We don't want to keep the community alive at the sake of this sense of honor many existing players have.
I don't think that Padawan treatment is the only problem with the community dying out. It is definitely a major one, but JK2 suffers from the same problems all other games do. Eventually, new and better things come out which distract you, or, God forbid, you simply get bored. This is natural for anything designed for entertainment, especially those damned Furbies. JK2 does have an advantage; its one of the only games out with such superb melee combat. Galaxies and KotOR are still up for release. I'm sure there are RPGs with some decent melee combat, but JK2 surely, in mine and many others, opinion, has to be the best. Plus the fact its in the Star Wars universe... I'd say that with the hardcore fans it'll have a long life. But still, it will die out, and is definitely already starting to. I remember a time when you couldn't get on public servers they were so full... now you're lucky to find one with more than 2, if any. As for the announcement of JK3 helping kill off the community, I disagree; if anything people will see it, and pick up their game to get back into it, and give the community a boost. I don't see why a game coming out at the end of this year would make people stop playing JK2 anymore.
All games have their expiry date, so to speak. But they can be kept alive longer, for example by maintaining an influx of new players, not driving them away.
you speak well matt , i enjoy reading your posts. as for what you say , i very much agree. this subject of JK2 dying in the near future is something that has been talked about quite a bit. i am in a clan and in our forum there have been alot of talk about people starting to get bored with the game. every seems to agree and have starting to talk about finding a new game to change to like doom, quake or other multiplayers.
im sad to hear this because i love the game, but i am myself not playing as much as i did. this is due to most of the reasons you all have stated. it is teriible the way padawans and newbie are shuned at the moment. i was lucky that i was guided in the rules and not bullied because of my status.
i find that the more enjoyable servers are the smaller ones, not set up by clans or clan member. i find that the people on there are just there to have fun and not to gang up and pick on newbie or week players. lets hope that this started to stop and we can regain enjoyment in playing this great game.
well thats it thx
You are right swifty. The small servers are the better ones. And clan servers abuse Admin Mod anyway. It gets annoying after a while. Even if a small server has Admin Mod, hosts only use it for what it is made for, to give the host more power over the players (NOT to use that power to kickban/sleep/slap etc... padawans). The old stereotype: "All padawans are noobs," must be disregarded. And yes, Matt speaks well and true.
This is now just a shameless plug
