"Lightsaber? I've got a blaster and i'm good at runnig!"

No, not in jedi knight II. Blocking the bryar is no problem if have a defending-skill of 3. the weapons u should care about seriously are first the

flechette-flak :the explosives of the second fire-mode will nearly every time instandly kill you! watch it! watch for the primary fire mode bullets, they sometimes jump off walls and hit you if they're fired from short range!

the heavy repeater : The second firemode is a jedi-killer if fired from short range, use force push to throw 'em back! the first firemode is deadly from close range, too, get outta there, u're a jedi!

disruptor-sniper: primary fire mode isn't a real threat for you, but the second firemode will instantly kill you if u do not have force seeing activated!

Rocket-Launcher: No questiopn, very dangerous, but easy to block with force push. Watch it: the enemy attacking u with it, will alway try to get close to you, so u do not have much time to react!

Now some saber-moves i have found out: (excuse me if already posted)

red style: multiple saber roundhouse-attack.

press the attack-button while strafing right or left, then close before the attack ends (it's hard to get the right moment, just practice, practice, practice, i know they're working!) press the attack-button while running behind-right or behind-left (depends on with side u have began with). and then, if the attack is about to end, again press the attack-button while strafing left or right (dependson.. well just like before), and you'll perform two roundhouse attacks. hard to learn and figuring out the right moment, but absolutely deadly!

yellow style: saber combo times six!

press the attack-botton while running forward-right or -left. then just before the attack is nearly finished do it again on the other side. and again. and again. its hard to catch the right moment here, too, but if u're doing it right, you can perform this left-right-attack up to six times (personal hi-score, donj't know if it is possible to do it more times!). i call it "deadly chainsaw- attack" and you make most of your kills with that combo combined with the yellow special-move.

more to come, hope it helps u at least a bit, hope marker hasn't been posting this already!:-)

Raitenks: This is Light Saber Dueling Tactics. Meaning 1 on 1 light saber dueling; But I am going to keep your post in here anyways because some people may find it useful & I am planning on re-doing the Light Saber Dueling Tactics Guide with some motion videos & stuff. Probably try to do some sort of conjunction with the Jedi Academy. I'd like to get some of the top duelers teaching in the academy. We'll see what happens though.

oh, sorry. but i really think this is useful for ffa. and the combo's i added are ONLY useful in duel, cuz u're defenseless while performming 'em, and mercs can easily kill you by shooting while running away from you. especially the red-style-move i've posted takes a lot of time.

These are all excellent tips Marker. Thanks a lot.

There are a couple of points I'd like to make. When I'm in a saberlock, I pound my keys so hard and fast I'm on my 2nd keyboard and mouse. I don't use a script, yet I NEVER lose. I tie alot, but I haven't ever lost a saberlock when I was paying attention. The keyboard repeat rate may have something to do with that, maybe if your keys are set up to repeat faster, I wouldn't have a chance, or maybe even I've never encountered anyone using a script. My point is, imho, for saberlock, nothing beats a good old fashioned keyboard pounding.

Another thing I'd like to bring up is red style. I decided at one point last year to never switch from red. The damage red style does in any version of the game is incomparable. Now this makes me a little predictable, but it also has made me great at red style. If you want to win duels fast, use red, and only red, forever. This is a moot point to anyone with experience, but to a noob reading this for tips, it should be useful. Nowadays I switch from red once and a while, but that is only to throw my opponent off balance. I do not attack with blue or yellow, I just take a couple swings, and then switch back to red. Unfortunately, this makes me a boring player, and I do lose quite a few duels. But when I’m warmed up and my timing is down, I am quite a worthy opponent.

Next, I’d like to question your blue lunge script. I had tried that, and found that sometimes I would get stuck in a lunge-loop. Not good to have this happen during a duel. Therefore, with a little experimenting, I came up with this, which, for me, works a little more reliably. The best part is you can hit this while running forward, and it still works! (bind "-forward;wait 5;+movedown;wait 5;+forward;+attack;wait 10;-movedown;-forward;-attack".

I'd also like to bring up the question of attacking someone while they are down. The point of a duel is to kill your opponent. This can be done honorably, like you suggest, by not hitting them when you kick them down or push them down after a saberlock, but in a hotly contested duel, against an evenly matched opponent, I feel that it is acceptable to hit them. After all, they can hold in jump and escape fairly quickly, so I do not consider it dishonorable to hit them while they lay on the ground. I won’t if I have them at my mercy, and I know I can win anyway, but if I have 10 hp left and I knock you down, you had better get up quick to avoid my attack! Too, its kind of like saberlock on the edge of a cliff. I'm not going to let up just because you will fall backwards off the edge if I win the lock, as I'm sure nor will most of you.

Hope to see you soon on the servers, Marker0077! We simply MUST duel a few hundred times! I'll be playing duelers mod all the time, if anyone cares to play along.

Hmm, a few good points made in this thread! I myself use a good mixture of styles. Constantly shifting so my opponent never knows what's coming his way! A good (but annoying) move I have found is in the blue stance! hold attack, couch, strafe left/right and forward to spin attck around your opponent, the moment the are in front of you again let go of strafe left/right and you go instantly into the blue special and cut them in half ;) !

In the yellow stance I have found that adding a spin at the end of the yellow cross will catch a lot of people off guard! (Yellow cross= forward+attack+ strafe left, strafe right) But this can leave you very open to attack!

Red stance, I am sure you all know this one but it can be effective, press back and hold jump+attack, then hold forwad! as your leap finishes you should go into the red special! The easiest way to counter this is to strafe when someone leaps backwards, but you will still catch one or two people with it!

Originally posted by Inskipp My point is, imho, for saberlock, nothing beats a good old fashioned keyboard pounding.

I like saberlocks, but for a real duel they should be off. As long as each person has a high speed internet connection & a decent keyboard setup for locks, whomever has the faster PC will win. I go between 2 different types of locking... #1) I have A bound to "+attack; wait; -attack; wait" which loops attacking & I tap as fast as i can with my regular attack button, but usually I... #2) have 2 keys bound to +attack & do the MK "Test your might" thing & just tap as fast as I can. if you have a real fast computer you can just bind "+attack; -attack" & that should saberlock fine, but again, saberlocking is usually won by whomever has the faster PC.

They should really redo this by a clientside tapping rate scale similar to the lagometer & have the client send that info to the server, that's not what they currently do, currently they just have the server judge whomever is sending the most +attack & -attack commands = lame.

Originally posted by Inskipp If you want to win duels fast, use red, and only red, forever.

In the words of doctor evil, "how about no". Try going on DarkSide sometime & trying that stuff on any of the DarkSide staff, ICoP clan, BSoV clan, or me. ;-) The problem with red is it takes so long, most of the time I can do a crouching left-right manuever & hit u 3 times while you only hit me once & unless you are doing a forward red slash, you're going to have some problems. I occasionally get killed by red wh0res, but usually I hit em up just fine.

You have to keep in mind, each stance is there for a reason, each stance has it's advantages & you should use them when they are needed. You can also speed up how fast you swing while doing a left-right manuever by walking.

Originally posted by Inskipp I had tried that, and found that sometimes I would get stuck in a lunge-loop. (bind "-forward;wait 5;+movedown;wait 5;+forward;+attack;wait 10;-movedown;-forward;-attack".

Then you did something wrong when you bound it because I never have that problem, not in MP anyways, but I never play SP. All you are doing with that bind is making it take longer to to do the move, but to each their own.

To each their own. I personally play on DarkSide servers, those are all NF servers & those servers are where the best NF players come to play. I don't think you should base your decision to attack a player when they are down or not by how much HPs you have, but that's my opinion. The point is attacking people when they are down is usually frowned upon & most players consider it poor sportsmanship unless the guy chat attacked you or something. Also, alot of people don't know you need to hold jump down to get up quick.

Losing is annoying, but it's a good move. When people want to complain in-game, just remind them they can do anything you do, don't complain because you do it better. Usually people get all butthurt about that comment, but forget them if they can't be a real player & be mature about it.

This is a good move, but it's especially useful for someone whos jump attacking you, or if they are trying to blue lunge wh0re you, just strafe 1 way & turn the other, that once they lunge do the move. Aim the bottom section of the attack the direction they are on. Red forward slash is also a good counter or blue lunge wh0res but you better get the time right otherwise it can really hurt you.

Ya, damn near everyone knows red special, but I usually use blue special to counter it. Blue lunge is my #1 counter-attack move.

I am glad everyone is finding the thread useful, but it really needs an update. I will probably make one after Full is about done.

Excellent! This means I have a fast PC. :)

In the words of doctor evil, "how about no". Try going on DarkSide sometime & trying that stuff on any of the DarkSide staff, ICoP clan, BSoV clan, or me. ;-)

(ROFL) DR. EVIL! I use that alot myself! Now, I think you misunderstood, or I did, I'm only talking about the actual time it takes to win a duel, assuming you hit them. Red does the most damage is all I really mean. I know I won't hit anyone who is actually good , I've played some ICoP before and got OWNED.

So thanks for the tips marker, now I know where to go if I want to actually get good at the game, and even more importantly, how to make it more fun. Hope to see you soon, playing someone more skilled can only make me better. Or bitter. I pick better. :)
