bladerunnercutter;3416265I knew it would be different from STBC and other older programs out there, and my anticipation for this game was great. The streamlined controls for energy flow and such are way to simplistic for what I was craving, but I can overlook that . I loved all the ships that are available that look friggen FANTASTIC, no problem there . My main, and ONLY real problem is with the sloppy, not well thought out, cumbersome, TARGETING SYSTEM !

That's it? I am having some problems with that and a few other things, but I still want to try the game some more. I ordered a newer video card which should arrive tomorrow, because my present card is too old and slow for this game. I hope that some patches will address the problems I am seeing.

I don't know if the game properly installed. For one thing, under the "Campaigns" menu, I get only one campaign that has Archer in it. I don't know if that campaign later goes to the other Trek eras but I think that is what happens. Once I get my new card I might be able to get out of the stalemate with the three Romulan ships. I fought them for a half hour and though they did not beat me, I was unable to kill any of them. I am having fun though :)

So I think you should give the game another try and give the developers a chance to fix the problems it might have.

Well, if they can patch the controls to make it easier, fix the camera problems, allow customizable enemies in skirmish mode, and fix the crashing problems...i think itll be worthy of modding :). Im sure they can do all that in a single 1.2 patch. Then we can mod it to hell, MVAM and core dropping here we come!! :D

One more thing, how do you sub target things? i was told to target the engines on a those 3 rommies? how the bloody hell do you do that?! i had to fire blind and hope to god i hit the damn things... im still waiting for a BIG patch from bethesda...i better come! the game is paractacly unplayable, i'v already had to make my own modifications to play the bloody thing, could't just play out of the box... just need to wait for a max importer/exported or a milkshape one... might help salvage the engine... (well old engine! lol) of this game, to make it semi usful...

Lord_Exar_Kun;3416331lets see about 80% of the gamer who have this game are a bunch of little whinny B*tches... The game is Amazing to play...too bad none of them can see that

I feel this is everything the descent series wanted to be. Its only 6 years late and not quite what I thought I was looking for... but ST:L will do nicely.

Use the XBox 360 controller on the pc and it targets perfectly...I'll never use a keyboard again. The only thing this game lacks are real episode missions like using the Zindi, ect...we are taking care of what it lacks in ships textures as we speak...a few downloads and it gets 9 stars out of 10. It plugs right into the usb port...will need to download a driver but I found mine with a quick google search...note microsoft just released a wireless adapter for the wireless xbox360 controller to work on your pc.

bladerunnercutter;3425464Well you would normally have a very good point... Normally. However the Enterprise refit and the Reliant were not engaged in battle under normal circumstances. If I recall correctly the two ships battled each other in the movie's climax in a giant electically charged gas bag called the Mutara Nebula. The whole reason why Admiral Kirk ordered the Enterprise to make a run for the nebula was because electrical discharges from the nebula disrupt:

1. deflector shields (i.e. the shields no worky) 2. clouds tactical systems (i.e. scanners and targeting)

Effect number two made both ships effectively blind. How else would Khan do a quick 180 degree turn to double back on the Enterprise and blow the ship full of holes. An experience commander like Kirk would have seen right through such a two dimensional strategy were it not for the fact the nebula messed up the Enterprise's sensors and targeting systems. If I recall correctly Sulu did remark the phaser lock "blew" at one point late in the Mutara engagement. This essentially means Sulu was manually targeting the phasers.

Thus your example of target acquisition and lock based upon Star Trek II is not very relevant to this discussion. If you had stated the game's targeting becomes erratic when inside certain nebula you might have had a valid point.

I'd say more but it is getting late in my time zone.

He said getting a lock on the Enterprise....they couldn't get a lock while in the cloud...

but in the first part of the movie when Khan first attacks it did take a few seconds for them to lock phasers and they where right beside the Enterprise.
