Does anyone know how to port the models from Legacy? More specifically into the Source engine, but into Blender would work as well.

There is a mod for Half Life 2 called Garry's Mod which allows you to construct things, it's pretty fantastic. Recently, there has been a new addition to it, a large pack of models that are known as "Spacebuild". There are bridge pieces, engine compartments, corridors, etc. I was hoping to port models from Legacy into that game to allow people to use Star Trek models for their own ship creation kit-bashing.

Ok, found them. However I'm having trouble extracting the dds files into images. Could you, acidfluxxbass, or anyone else could give me a hand by just converting the Constitution A skin from this pack ( Federation Texture Fixes, Star Trek: Legacy Downloads, Star Trek: Legacy Texture Tweaks ) into a png and post it on imageshack or email me it?

This is (1) technically not possible and (2) legally not allowed. And (3) you had to get permission from the modders who made the retexture of the Constitution if you were using the materials for a Legacy mod.

That texture pack gives permission on it's download page. Just as long as they are credited.

As for the legality of porting...

We live in the ages of computers, nothing is truly stealing anymore, just a swapping of format. Besides, I would probably be changing the models significantly for two reasons, one: being that the engine I would be using could possible handle a higher poly count, and second: I would be tweaking the canon vessels to fit the game better.

People port from Legacy into Bridge Commander, and from Bridge Commander into Legacy.

It is stealing if you do not have permission. You have to accept that. And people are porting non stock stuff by the way from Bridge Commander to Legacy. The porting from Legacy models to BC is quite limited but a few modders actually do. You simply can't port stock Legacy stuff, since it's a violation of the license agreement and addiotionally there is no importer for the Mad3D format. You should take a look at this:

Star Trek: Legacy, Star Trek: Legacy Downloads - The sky is falling!
