I wanted to do something similar to this for another game, but gave up due to the game starting to compress files. :(

Anyway, my idea is a website that allows you to create your own mod. When you get there, you will be given a large list of units/buildings that are already in the game and those that modders have created. Using the website, you customize each race, giving them the buildings and units you want. After the whole process is finished, INI files are generated by a CGI script and sent to the user with installation instructions. Since Generals uses INI files which are basically TXT files, this should be fairly easy. The only thing I need is information on each unit. Say I wanted to add that nuke truck for GLA. I know that some chunk of code goes in factionunit.ini, possibly some in the upgrade.ini and weapon.ini, and then the build button must be made in the commandset/button.ini. Also to get a proper icon you must edit some SSUserinterface.ini or something similar, and then all labels go in generals.csf. If I could just gather a database of all the edits for each unit, I think this could be possible.

What I would do is all models and pics for each unit will go in a seperate folder and if the user wants that unit, they will have a link to all files in the folder and instructions on where to put them. Currently I am talking with my ISP to see if I can host my site from my own comp using Apache and then I will have unlimited disk space. (well, I will have however much muy comp has, which is roughly 240GB)

I have set up a filter in my mail program for this. If you want to add a unit to the soon-to-be-made program, send the models/images and possible INI configuration to:

CCGModMaker@gidustin.net

I want to make this, but until I get some units and buildings to test on, I am afraid I cannot go very far.

So, this is a collection of all the units ever created by modders (given they give them to you) with complete INI files and all, and what this does it allows them to become compiled. But on the site you select only the ones you like and this automatically throws them together (without conflicting the menus)... Genious... Once I get INI and bones for mine i'll send em to ya.

Dispraiser:

That is pretty much the idea. I am even going to alter the existing ones so that any race can use them (not sure how yet, but I will. Maybe make 3 copies of every unit . . .)

Also, even if you want to replace one of the GLA's units with another (for instance), I am not going to delete the code for that unit, only it's build button. That way you can still play the SP missions and not be lacking vehicles.

I do have a question for other modders though. If you want one vehicle to be buildable by all 3 sides, do you have to put the code in 3 times, or can you just put in extra buttons to each of their war factory buildings?
