I feel kinda guilty just going ahead and asking for help without setting myself up as someone you all know here. So here's the deal. Last Monday I started creating a mod for Generals. As a complete n00b it was obviously daunting. I started with skinning, then went onto .ini editing and then CSF editing. In all it's actually easier than I thought. I've almost skinned every unit I can, I've edited most of the units and changed ingame graphics and text. My proudest achievment was when I added a completly new unit. I put in the original model of the US Crusader along side the release version and made it a little tougher. I thought great, I can add new units. But it doesn't work that way does it. For the last two days I've been trying to add a helicopter to the Chinese Airfield. I did everything I did for the Crusader exactly. What I wanted to do was to have the Chinese use an Apache (using the model you can download to replace the Comanche) to go against my Orca for the US (NOD v GDI). Everything works fine. Ive gotten the game to run without 'Serious Error', got the Chinese Airfield to see the unit and build it. I've even edited it to make it only have a Machine Gun. But the only problem is that the unit is invisible. You can't see it. There is no model, no skin, no nothing. I have tried absolutly everything, even different models but to no avail. I'm starting to lose sleep, I was up all night working on it and then when I tried to sleep I kept thinking about it.
Any help will be humungously appreciated
okay first u need to make sure your models in the faction unit match the ones u have, capitols included. and make sure u have the skin named right too. can u click on the unit?
how good are u at skining can u make the b52 have camoflage on top and grey on the bottom?
Hi! I had the same problam as you with the apache model... After hours of work and no sleep that shit didn't work! The apache model is named comanche isn't it? try to open the the apache model in gmax or what ever you use and export the model again but this time type name it apache.w3d... could be working, i'll try it out asap
ok... that worked! Now I have some problems with the animation... insted of making the propellers spin the choper does :uhm:
dont ask me.....i can't mod/skin/create anything yet i want to learn..... :smokin:
Wow, speedy replies, thank you!
Well I found out my first mistake last night, I changed the name of the externally a few days back and forgot to put it back. But that still wouldn't have made it work.
Wes4 - I have checked over and over again the spelling and all features of the unit in the .ini files so that is not the problem as far as I am aware. And yes I can select it. And about the skinning, I'm fairly competant, only started last Monday as I said but as soon as I get my broadband internet up I will give the bomber a try (I'm currently working from two computers, lappie with 56k modem and speedy PC with no internet due to moving house). I could try and upload it from my g/f's house if I'm sneaky.
SilentSnake - Aha, this has to be were the problem lies! I haven't even started modelling yet so it now looks like I'll have to start a little. The only thing I can think about with the Apache spinning everywhere is in the Factionunit.ini file. I tried tinkering with the ComancheBlades. Other than that you may have missed something, I'm not sure.
revolutionary - You should just really look around the net for tutorials and just tinker about with stuff, I found it all very simple to pick up.
But again, thanks guys. Better start up that modelling program *gulp* At least this way I can add that extra turret to my damned Mammoth Tank
