i am one of the many who believe that sound is half the game. and to get the feeling of warhammer, i would like to hear peoples opinions on what music and sounds one would expect in the warhammer40k universe. i myself believe some sort of industrial sound should be good, but it cant be to bright. and how should the different units sound? the orks should be pretty simple; "waagh!!, biig bombah!". but the tau will be hard. I have to find that tau codec.

is there any programs that is very effective at manipulation of sounds and voices? that way, we could make some sort of orkish and tauish sounds. i believe we should stay english in the sounds, and not make some "ohmo chewbacka!" sounds which makes no sence :)

The Final Lib muzac is really good (in my opinion) maybe you could use that.

All sounds should be english. Just because whenever we've heard Orks they've spoken in English, I don't think it means that they all actually speak in English, they'd probably have their own tongue, we just hear them in English because it makes everything much easier.

Use the excuse of there being a very good "universal translator" like there is on Star Trek or something for why we hear everything in English. This would mean we hear Tau in English too (after all on C&C: Generals we hear the GLA and so on and so forth speak in English when they have their own language).

In battle in Final Liberation the sound the Orks made was something along the lines off "arggrwahmmagggawahhhwahmah"...it was them arguing among themselves, meaning we won't find too many useful voices for Orks in Final Liberation :D. And all the Imperial Infantry either said "yes sir" or "come in sir", and that was pretty much it, not much variety there. We ought to look more towards Chaos Gate for Marine voices, there was some interesting in-battle dialogue between them and the Chaos Marines in that :).

i am one of the many who believe that sound is half the game.

I wouldn't say half, but I'd say a nice amount of the game. Anybody repetitively select the same unit on Starcraft again and again? There then followed some neat dialogue there too ;) .

The Final Lib muzac is really good (in my opinion) maybe you could use that.

I liked it too, and alot of people have wanted to get hold of it, but noone (including me) seems to know where too. I guess the best way would be to somehow extract it from the game's files, and I'm no good at stuff like that. But too anybody that is, please go ahead and do it, and inform us on your results, and share them with us! :p

Some of Chaos Gate's sounds are in a directory called 'wav' that installs with the game, not all of them are though and only a few of the voices. The rest have to be extracted from this sound file thing, and once again, I ain't a clue how too do that (I tried for my personal-use-only C&C: Tiberian Sun WH40k mod but didn't meet with much success getting them).

Also, theres some good sounds for Lascannons, Chainswords, Bolters, Assault Cannons, Battlecannons, Laspistols/Lasguns and the likes that come with Rites Of War, which you may want to consider using because I found them quite good (and they didn't need to be extracted either so they went into the Tiberian Sun mod straight away!). Pitty Rites Of War the game itself got tiring so very quickly...(they should of just done it the same way they did Chaos Gate, that was cool!).

Replying to a previous post i thought should be better suited here. Maybe u can get the Protoss (from Starcraft) voices for the tau cause they spurt words that I cant understand either.

using protoss would sound little bit strange, since its such a well known game.

Duke's right, we shouldn't use Protoss, they'd be more suited to the Eldar anyway and if we ever add an Eldar side they shouldn't even be used for them then.

Lets do our best to keep stuff as WH40k as possible here shall we?
