Its a stalemate for both sides because it has never reached a conclusion.

But the UN did succeed in its objective of ensuring the continued existance of South Korea.

The North Korean People's Army (NKPA) did a good bit of owning the UN troops as they pushed them down into a little pocket called Pusan. It was the suprise landings into the NKPA's undefended rear at Inchon that crippled them.

It was also Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact pilots that trained North Korean and Chinese pilots and occasionally flew against UN aircraft. My favorite Soviet pilot Alexander Pokryshkin was IIRC the commander for the Soviet volunteer group, often described as a Korean War version of the American Volunteer Group that flew in China during WW2.

As for the UN troops invading China I would like some info on that? It is my understanding that US troops took up positions on the Yalu river looking into China but at no time did troops actually cross the river into China.

There were several occasions where UN aircraft chased NKPAF and Chicom fighters across the border and then retreated back but UN pilots had standing orders stating they were not to cross the border into China.

After Inchon and with the NKPA in full retreat the UN felt they had the opportunity to defeat the NKPA and force a surrender thus unifying the country, in that they failed.

MacArthurs sabre rattling and threatening to use nukes had a factor in drawing China into the war. The other was China was not comfortable with a US Army sitting on its border and said as much but MacArthur ignored them and at one point said China would not dare to get involved. Another factor was Stalin promising full support to China and North Korea to win the war.

Once the Chicoms (Chinese Communists) got involved the UN got pushed back into the Pusan perimeter but were able to fight their way back out to the 38th Parallel and then it became a see saw battle for hilltops til the cease fire as each side kept trying to get a advantageous position before shooting stopped.

Some may flame me but I cant stand MacArthur, I think he is one of the most overrated generals in US history, a better politician than military man.

The only thing I give him credit for is his treatment of Japan after the war. MacArthur had been a military attache in Japan before the war and had spent some time there. He did understand Japanese culture and society and wanted them to become a successful and prospering nation again. Many wanted to punish Japan severely and strip it of all its wealth and power.

McArthur wasn't bad, but nothing special. He reminds me of that bald Army general in Mars Attacks...

"We have to nuke 'em and nuke 'em now! KILL! KILL! KILL!"

The one thing of his that I truly admire is his speach he gave at West Point in the 1960s. If you have never heard it, I strongly suggest you do (Altavista.com audio search should do the trick) soon, definatly worth your time.

'[11PzG USMA2010']Um... North Korea got owned until China entered the war. That first optition is BS...

You are not entirely correct there, the NK army drove South koreas Waeeeey... down, they took there capital. When UN troops finaly came North Korea had quite a peice of territory, the UN pushes NK back... China goes Forword... pushes UN back... TIE.

It ended in a stalemate. Hence why North Korea and South Korea are still seperate nations...

JedihunterWho do you beleive won the Korean war?, neither of the sides finished there objectives the way they wanted to, the war has since been forgotton. I read in a forum on another site of a teen who hadnt found out about it till he was 17. Many beleive we won in korea, but in reality the war is still going on, as a Truce has not been signed, which would mean if NK attacked SK it would not be a new war. Who do you beleive won?.confusedx.gif

Actually the North was basically wiped out. If not for Chinese intervention and poor logistics for the U.N. troops we wouldn't be having this discussion. Macarthur actually at one point wanted to drop the bomb in the Chinese, it almost came to fruition. Many call it a stalemate, but it was a clear moral victory as well as military considering that China had the transportation advantage.

Thank Bill Clinton for giving the Chinese the Missle Technology to do so. I can tell you this mush. As soon as the load that missle or attempt to fire it the whole launch pad will be decimated.

You know... Bill Clinton is not the cause of all problems in the world.. Missile technology and nukes have little in common except that one transports the other. Anyways, the North Koreans would probably threaten to nuke Japan in case of war, not the USA, so a simple Scud B would be enough.
