OK the holodeck thread reminded me of something ive been pondering since i saw first contact.

Why the hell didnt they just replicate Projectile weapons and use those instead of the Phasers? Arm every security member with a Famas (the french assault rifle banned in every UN country cause its fire rate is ridiculous) and a desert eagle or a Glock 18c/Beretta M93R (full auto machine pistols) and try to take back the ship? After Picard killed the borg in the holodeck why didnt he do that? Anyone got any good explainations? Cause i cant think of one.

because it would be rational...and ST is just fiction, besides the movie would be pretty short if they did.

Two reasons I can think of... 1. They'd still be able to adapt. After 'x' number of deaths they'd probably start using a force field that can stop physical projectiles. 2. The main computer was locked out by Data, the holodecks run on their own system(I think) but replicators probably would've been down... plus they would've had to drag the plans out of the main computer in order to replicate them anyway.

Yes I've wondered why they don't show load up a minigun of some sorts and start letting one rip. I agree with elevator above, they would develop shields to stop physical attacks.

Indeed, other than that its Sci-Fi and wouldn't have done any favours for the plot.

The TR 116 was designed to beat up the Borg and thats a prjectile weapon-anyhow physical attacks have been getting the Borg since the Klingons can still gettem with Bat'Leths and Mek'leths,Mr Woof and Data were able to wrestle with them,Janeway and co smacked em one with the butt of a phaser rifle,Captain Picard gave um sum 45 acp Physical attacks have been killing them for a while now so why havent they developed shields against this yet???? Bullets will still work!!!!

Your head is in the clouds mate. Projectiles are different to a puch or kick.

Hmm, I personally think the film was good the way it was.
