It’s now just a week before the exclusive premiere of Borg War on Machinima.com. As many of you already know, Borg War is an all-new, feature-length animated Star Trek adventure (i.e. a fan film) made using the video output of computer games (specifically Elite Force 2 and Starfleet Command 3).

Machinima.com, the leading outlet for that type of movie, has set up a top-level forum topic to discuss the movie. I’ve already posted a lot of information there (mostly about the machinima process by which I built the movie), so if you’re interested in learning more about the Borg War project, you should check it out. Here’s the link:

http://www.machinima.com/PHPBB/viewforum.php?f=35

The movie (which is 93 minutes long) is being released in 9 episodes, each roughly ten minutes long. Here's a link to the trailer:

Here’s a link to the preview of the first episode.

Here’s some additional background about Episode 1:

Huh, I hadn't heard about it.

And this looks suspiciosly like an add.

I don't know about that. I've posted here before, but the old email was fizzled, so I had to re-register. Early versions of Borg War were posted on this board but I'm not sure whether they're available any longer.

In any case, I think to be an "ad" somebody would have to be making money on it. And it turns out that, in order to use the material in the games, I had to agree to never make a cent. All purely for your entertainment...

However, everytime somebody downloads a Borg War file, another penny gets added to fund that helps HIV+ orphans in Ethiopia. So I suppose, in the absolute broadest sense of the word, it might be an ad.

Depends on how you look at it.

Check out www.borgwarmovie.org for more info.

Oops. I forgot to put the info about Episode 1. Here it is:

Borg War takes place 17 years after the return of Voyager. In the alternative (i.e. non-canon) universe where Borg War takes place, the Federation (as well as the other key races) are well aware that the Borg, after regrouping, will eventually attempt to expand into the Alpha quadrant. The obvious approach to combating a race that adapts is to make every hit lethal, so Alpha quadrant starships have been optimized for massive power generation and mounted with 360 degree hard-points. In addition, much research has gone into new types of weaponry and hybrid weaponry. The Klingons, for example, have developed two new weapons: an armor-penetrating photon torpedo (which explodes from inside the penetrated ship) and a massive version of the ion-cannon, a stationary weapon intended to destroy dreadnaughts at a single hit. We see both these weapons in action in Episode 1. Any comments?

I don't mean to offend you with the 'ad' comment.

It's just that a person with only a single post, looks a tad suspicious when they're creating a new thread that recomends that you go to an external site.

But to show that there's no bad feelings, here's some rep.

The problem is that they're edited to start with. The sound clips are repurposed (and sometimes mashed) from the sound clips from the game. Sometimes this worked perfectly; sometimes it ends up sounding a little like Chef in his final South ParK appearance. The advantage of this approach was that it allowed me to re-use professional voice talent (like Stewart). The downside is that, well, it really isn't as good as having the real thing.

Ya know, it looks a lot like an ad to me, too, so no offense taken. I had another thread somewhere else on this board, but the system wouldn't let me add a comment to it because it had been inactive for too long. So I started another. I probably should have put links to the old topic. Here's one of them: http://forums.filefront.com/showthread.php?t=218036
