Well, I was just watching the DS9 episode 'A Man Alone' (season 1) where Odo said he has to return to his 'jelly' form in 18 hours to regenrate, he mentions that he spent this time in a pail in his office.
Which makes me realise he can compress his shape to something smaller.
Is he actually able to phsyically 'divide' so that he could make 2 'little Odos' or something?
You'll have to forgive me if this has been addressed. I didnt really get to watch DS9 alot growing up. I was more of a TNG person.
I've seen him pour through a ventilation screen in one episode, but he reformed on the other side completely intact. While it may be possible to split temporarily, I believe he needs all his mass to be complete. He also has to revert back to his liquid form(if it can be called that) after a certain time period to regenerate. If he were to get seperated for a long enough period of time I don't think it would work. This is all speculative, but it makes for interesting conversation none the less. Nice thread.
A good thread, but the answer would be no. :) Simple reason(s) would be, that if he could, it would have showed it. Yes, he went through a ventilation shaft, however there were always points at which he was 'touching' himself (please don't twist that in any perverted way) But parts of him were still connected. There hasn't been a single episode (except for the one when Bashir 'borrows' a sample) that he is in pieces. And that 'sample' he gave Bashir, could be the equivilent of an eye lash, a tooth, or a hair or something. It was simply 'goo'.
There was that episode where Odo merged with another changeling. Maybe it is a choice to divide, but for reproduction or cloning…guess it could be possible, but the Star Trek lore does not mention it, so guess not.
and also he has only one mind, which leaves the question open, if he separates, does his body automatically duplicate the memories for the other half aswell - i think most obvious is, that he can penetrate a ventilation system, but thats no real separation
