AdmarilRyan;3711352Well in several episodes of Top Gear (yes this is relevent) they try and weld cars together and all sorts of other unusual car modificications (convertable people carrier) and they always prove that it doesn't work due very well. Take the principle and expand it a little, just imagine all of the potential problems that welding to random starship parts together, warp field problems ect. They spend huge amounts of time carefully designing each starship, rejecting and revising hundreds of stages of development, so the idea of rapidly throwing together parts of different starships is ridiculas for the very careful and safety awhere starfleet.

Yeah. That kind of thinking kinda goes out of the window when you're on the brink of defeat against superior numbers, and you need ships out there now. Hence why its a good demonstration of how much pressure Starfleet was under to field more and more ships for the war. Whether it's ridiculous or not is irrelevant, they did it. I never said it was a good idea, but they needed numbers.

Besides which, comparing Starfleet to a bunch of nutcases with a blowtorch and some old cars isn't going to win any arguments I'm afraid, however funny they are... :p

I even kitbashed my own model of it.

The Centaur is just as cool as a Miranda IMO.

yeah well the only problem with the Saber arguement is that except for first contact we never really see one in combat. and every different class of ship from oberth to akira was gettin the crap kicked out of it at the battle of sector 001. So theres really nothing to base how tough the sabre really is compared to any other races.

and i like the centaur class ship. its something thats kinda outside the box but that still feels very federation unlike the freedom class, or a niagara which i think kinda go against the standard rule of even numbered nacelles.

goin fast;3715537The Centaur makes three appearances throughout the episode. "Behind the Lines" which is three episodes later. http://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=142&pos=0 http://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=142&pos=1 http://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=142&pos=168 http://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=142&pos=169 http://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=142&pos=323 http://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=142&pos=324 According to ditl.org, 403 total of the class were built and 100 in all were lost, so there might be a chance this is the USS Centaur herself.

once again we are trying to prove fact in a fictional universe. you see a centaur class ship in the back ground of starbase 375 in multiple episodes. for all we know it could be the same ship. but it could be different. we dont know. and all the speculating and conjuring up numbers of production isnt gonna tell us.

Agreed. For all we know, it could have been the Centaur in all of the scenes.

Yeah but wqe never really saw it take damage. It has been in a few episodes but none where we actually see one gettin destroyed. or duking it out with aother ship. so we really cant say for sure how tough the ship is. id say its at least comparable to a centaur.
