hello ppeps. i was browsing and found a post that interested me; it dealt with the changing and/or optimising the FPS. normally, i don't have a problem, but playing maps like 'radar' (even with the rain removed, my FPS is still all over the place...usually in the 20s. the post i read dealt with setting the maxfps to 0, and that this is the optimal setting. the post was written by 'bryan44' the problem i have is: does this ("com_maxfps" to 0) just get entered into the console? do i have to enter this everytime i want to play? and what is the exact way to type this in? any help would be greatly appreciated!! thnx rebel
That would get entered into the console. If you wanted to have it there for just a test, do this: /set com_maxfps "0" If you want it to be perminant, do this: /seta com_maxfps "0" I do not recommend that setting for you if you are stuck around 20. The Max frames per second allows the computer to limit how much it has to process. I've heard the default maxfps for rtcw is 85. I have mine set to 43 so that I can background processes running (like TeamSpeak) while I play and they won't affect RtCW. That's probably the minimum you want to set it at... This COULD give a person an advantage as they game responds faster to their commands. I have a 1.2 ghz computer and don't have to worry about it giving me an unfair advantage no matter what settings I tweak. Setting it to 0 would mean, i guess, no limit. That is good if you have a fast computer and a fast vid card that can handle it. If you see your performance go way down in the game, I'd consider setting it lower.
Capt. QueegIf you wanted to have it there for just a test, do this: \set com_maxfps "0" If you want it to be perminant, do this: \set com_maxfps "0"
:Puzzled:Errr...Is this a perminant test? ;)
ummm, which is which? i'd like to try the test to see if it helps at all.
lol... Sorry... fixed now....
lol .queeg ;) m8 you have a wealth of knowledge :P
and never seem to busy to help some one out ..........with a good sense of humer thrown in ....great job m8 :bows:
U guys have got the command right..it doesnt matter if u use /com_maxfps 0 or /set com_maxfps 0 .. cuz ive been searching for a way to get my fps higer:type: and i found out there are 2 solutions.. 1. Buy an new fx card or processor.. 2. set your graphix as low a possible and learn to live with it!:uhoh: L8r!!:smokin:
thanx queeg! i'll give it a whirl when i get home tonite. and that whole wealth of knowledge bit by the other poster, 'win'... i tend to agree with'em! :bows: thanx again rebel
No prob. (Shark summed it up nicely too but I'd also add Faster hard drive & more member to the list. In fact I'd probably put those first on the list since they are the cheapest right now.)
if i could bug you again queeg, (or nebody else who would like to answer this) i've set my FPS to 43, it plays pretty good on most maps, (no more jumping from 20ish to 80-90, stays pretty much at 43) i've already shut the atmospheric effects off for radar, (but now i'm having a prob getting into a server running that map) ...anyways, i've got the lagometer running, but i'm unsure on how to read it
it was also mentioned in an earlier thread about changing things like hunkmegs, soundmegs, and mixahead...am i correct in assuming hunkmegs is the amount of ram used in the game, soundmegs is obvious, but what is mixahead? rebel
