I've been burried in the specs and designs for the Galaxy Class the past few months for Star Trek Explorer, but I was wondering.

What does everyone else think about the Galaxy Class and the Soverign Class. Which is better? Would you have prefered to the the Ent-D to keep going instead of the Ent-E?

Personally I prefer the Galaxy Class over the Soverign, for several reasons; 1. Its easier on the eye inside, more civilian friendly. 2. The Soverign has fugly corridors. 3. We saw more of the Ent-D than the E. 4. It seperates into two bits 5. The Soverign Sucks

Ok so thats more than a few reasons but still....

Well from what I have seen the Enterprise E is a more powerful combatant abd the Galaxy class as a science ship. DITL says that the Sovereign is a combat deterance explorer and has given it a grade 5 diplomatic grade(certain amounts of Quarters and Facilitys which is equal to the Ambassador) while the galaxy has grade 7 which is equivalent to a starbase. For a combat mission I would go gridgingly with the Sov but for everything else Galaxy rocks. The Sovereign for me moves Starfleets agenda to a more military one as to deal with the Borg. The Galaxy has been upgraded as in USS Venture with more powerful shields and weapons to deal with the problems the Oddessy had but all in all still keeps all of its peaceful applications. Me votes for E-D as she is more my style and she has far better looking shuttlecraft, she can use all of her shuttlebays as emergency hospitals etc etc etc. For Starfleets peacefull mission of Exploration Galaxy is the far better choice for me

Sovereign in my opinion. Has a nice streamlined look to it and packs a punch in battle :)

There's no reason why Starfleet can't explore in Sovereign class ships, never know who you are going to run into.

Yeah but the sovereign is more daunting to smaller less powerful people and its seems to aggressive to be in a first contact situation. There are only 2 sovereign class starships that I know of USS Sovereign and the Enterprise and Starfleet has kept them close to home as in Star trek 8 E-E was at the neutral Zone,in 9 she was in the Briar patch which was mentioned in Star Trek Enterprise as a place the Augments could hide themselves from earth,in Nemisis she was at the neutral zone again, remebe Picards comment in Insurrection when he asked "Does anyone remember when we were explorers". The Sovereign has done little or no exploring since the class was launched.Galaxys number about 20 as of 2379 and Nebulas as 40. I say 20 because there are about 2 per fleet as sisko in sacrifice of angels had 2 whole fleets with him and about 4 galaxys. So there are at least 10 fleets as in that episode the 9th fleet was a day behind.this adds up to around 20. Galaxys will be outpacing Sovereigns in terms of nimbers and exploration capabilitys as they are bigger and can have way more scientific equipment aboard, couple that with them all recieving refits to Venture subtype(note that is'nt cannon but very likely considering the Galaxys weakness's)

Someone's touchy

I don't know about you but I'd rather be exploring in a ship that can defend itself better.

Defend itself better, because it has all of those weapons doe'snt mean that it will alway's win in a fight,it mostly depends on the captain-in the Dominion Wars of the 20 Galaxys that were around estimates indicate between 0-4 were lost including the Oddessy

Not really, I think they were overused by the end of Voyager, :(.
