I was just wondering how many people out there are serious RTCW players? I mean, I just read this thread about an Engineer who did nothing else than blowing up and fixing an artillery gun to score points.WTF?
This triggered something in me and I have noticed similar behaviour before, while I was playing: soldiers jump for a flag in Destruction, while there were about 10 enemies defending the flag. That's pointless unless you wanna score points (nu pun intended). They didn't even try to kill an enemy, they went straight for the flag, got it, got killed, the enemy took the flag again and the cycle would repeat itself.
So, it could happen that you have a team with 5 serious players and 5 high score sluts and you are opposing a team with 10 serious players and you are doomed, doomed I says ya!
Anyway, anyone else getting pissed about this or is it just me again?
Hi Herr Dickmeister,
That's not uncommen, just a pain in the butt when they happen to be on your team. If friendly fire is off just drop a nade near their nads, they'll soon get the message. LOL
And if they try to kick you for being a TK'er your team will stick up for you cause they will have noticed it also.
Ive seen a few ppl in depot sitting in that mounted gun in the corner, knifing it till it breaks (cuz they used all other ammo on it) and then repairing it, if i knew i wouldnt get kicked for tking, i definately would knife em a little, or alot , but ya, i really dont like those guys, pnts dont even matter, i dont like it when they run for the flags in maps, besides marketgarden cuz if u get it u might hold it till respawns and then thats a good thing, i also dont like ppl that do things to get pnts, i have been caught doin this, but i dont like it in chateua when ppl plant like 3 dyno outside the door, and sometimes it gets funny, if tk is on, they whipe out there whole first attackers , well ya ppl are out there that have no clue what RTCW really is, a game to have fun, not for pnts, not for anything else but FUN!!!!
i got ur point...BUT! Taking the destruction map for example : let say that ur on axis team, and there is only one flag left, but all the ennemy team is around that flag.....what would you do?!!? First, try to kill all the allies and then going after the flag or just ran straight to the flag?!!?
Oh there's a wide and sadly astonishing variety of stupid things people do just to be the game's top scorer. Generally when I end up landing that unofficial tittle, its through raw kills and objective returns (securing docs, etc.)
I've had times on tram, where I all did was run laps up and down slopes reviving, healing, and shooting anyone who got in my way - landing myself scores in excess of 90+ on several occassions.(On the axis team)
The point I'm gesturing towards is - even if you are someone who gets off on having a huge score in one's pocket.... you don't have to invent effortless little pocket-pool exploits to get big numbers... it happens when you just play the game and support your team.
But the bottom line really is - you can have 350 points all by yourself, and it doesn't mean a thing if you can't complete the objectives (either defending against the other team or pushing through them to win on assault.) No amount of kills wins the match simply by nature of the points it generates.
I always run into this problem ive seen a person go as far as to kill an engy planting and plant his dynamite and then lay one of his dynos down himself and plant. These guys dont care if their team wins or loses they want points. I wish these people would stop playing but we cant do that so i see no solution to get these guys to stop... just agreeing with you.
This sort of thing is very common on some public servers. I have had engineers defuse my dynamite and plant their own, it's fine when we are on a FF on server, I always watch my dyno and will shoot anyone disarming it (oops sorry, thought you were axis!! ) On a FF off server the only thing to do is disarm his dyno and replace it with your own again, but that defeats the point of the game cause it slows the rest of yer team down.
Of course if the sucker is that bad a player that he has to shoot his own teamates and steal their dyno just to get a few points then he's not going to get very good score by the end of the game anyway, so just let him have his fun and laugh at him when game over.
 :cya:  :cya:
First let me say that I agree with these statements. Doing something stupid and/or non supportive of the team is a waste of server space. Whether it gains points or not. The objective is for the TEAM to be victorious. Lets set aside checkpoint maps, as "point horing" is going to take place there wheather we like it or not and the end points will say little about actual performance.
I use points to gauge MY OWN performance. Not for the respect of others (no one else cares, or will ever remember) but to let me know how I'm progressing. As an example I'll use Market Garden (my fav map). As a medic (that's me :)) in MG, there is little opportunity to gain points other than by doing your job. If you do it well, there is a huge amount of points to be made! When I was a noob, I would revive a few ppl, pass out some packs and kill a few ppl, but in the end there would be 5 or 6 medics with higher points then me. Not because they were point horing, but because they were keeping more teammates alive at the front lines and helping the team to win, better then I was. As I got better, my points began to rise, till now I'm usually in the top 5 of points when game ends. Not bragging, I've played long and hard to get there, and I can still get alot better, but i feel pretty good about my abilities as a medic now.
When it comes to one on one gun battles though, I suck!! :( The hardest thing in this game for me is to try and shoot in short bursts! My accuarcy and life span suffers accordingly. But I digress....
My point is that points are a useful tool in judging your own performance and improvement and if your point totals rise (honest points that is) then by definition you are helping your team to gain victory. True, if you have highest points in a game and your team loses...that sucks! But at least you know you did your best, and as with any human competition, the other side is trying their best as well and you can't win um all.
If you go for points using stupid tricks like those mentioned above, you just suck. If you go for points to gain respect of others...forget it, 30 seconds later, no one will remember. Use them for yourself to help you become a better team player.
Just my thoughts
I just love the axis dudes that wait back in the war room to recover docs only, believe me i've seen it. I'll be wasting the dudes grabbing the docs only to have this peon come out from under a rock to recover them with me right there, lol, i could care less but the point is, don't be concerned with points, it's a team killer alot of times, there have been many times i've let someone go by me without killing them because i knew he was a waste of my time, my mind is only on the objective at hand. Screw points and anybody who plays primarily for them, lol. :smokin:
You see Bobstein, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Those camping score whores. On a normal day, it doesn't bother me that much but when I had a rough long day and I want to completely forget about it playing some nice RTCW but then those idiots start ego-trippin and it just pisses me off.   And then usually I have a beer :D
