:beer:All the timelines said ENT was before TOS, but all the weapons and transporters suggest otherwise:confused:

Call that modern technology & GFX. Enterprise is well before Kirk and TOS, yes, everything does look newer, however back in the days of TOS, they didn't have the GFX skills that we've got these days, thus they couldn't make it look that good. Now that we have got our skills, we can make things look better, such as Enterprise NX-01.

Sadly we're still working on the technology that makes scripts not suck.

What would be the point of them wanting to make it look old?

To avoid having fans rip their work to shreds on the basis of a lack of visual continuity... To actually have 'Enterprise' look like it fits in at the beginning of the Trek timeline... To avoid being belittled when compared to the 'retro' feel given to 'Trials and Tribble-ations'... Primarily the first one though, I'd imagine...

I think one other problem is that they also want to make it look like it's from the future from our perspective as people living in the 21st century while at the same time trying to also give it some contemporary feel as well. These days computer interphases on ships and aircraft are looking more and more like what we see on ENT. The main difference is that the paneling is usually painted black instead of grey. Also the concept of how computers looked like in 1969 are really different from how they look today. Back in 1969, the idea of a computer that fit on your desk like in Kirk's, was considered pure fantasy. Even more, the idea of that personal computer being connected to a network of computers was even more fantastical. There are many little things in TOS that aren't really futuristic anymore. Even some of the scientific or technical terms used in Star Trek are a bit archaic. One example is the term, "atomic weapons" is really no longer used. Nuclear weapons is now used. While atomic is essentially correct, but nuclear is a more discriptive and accurate term.

It would help Trekkies (or Trekkers) :borg: to make it look old. It would fit in the timeline better. For Example: The transporters on TOS take about 30sec. The transporters on ENT take about 10sec. Also the doctor on ENT, have we even see another of his race on TOS or TNG or DS9 or VGR. Actually he's the only one i saw on ENT too. Man it so confusing.:( I get that ENT is way before TOS but all the different races (like the doctor on ENT), weapons and computers.

The argument about not seeing a denobulan in TOS, TNG, DS9, or VOY is rather weak considering that when you put all of those series together, we've only seen probably less than 10% of all of the potential member and protectorate species of the Federation. TMP alone shows a lot more species than the other series. Furthermore, it also appears that not all Federation members hold seats on the Federation council. One thing that was established later in ENT was that prior to the Federation, there was originally a loose alliance called the Coalition of Planets. This may be analogous to the Articles of Confederation that existed prior to the adoption of the United States Constitution. Under the Articles of Confederation, you had 13 states, formerly the 13 colonies. Under the Constitutional convention, only 9 of the 13 had to ratify it before the Constitution could take effect and the United States government be established. It is very likely that when the United Federation of Planets was established, a few members from the Coalition of Planets simply chose to remain separate or very loosely associated with the Federation, almost like the situation with Orion.

Also I don't TOS transporters take anywhere near 30 seconds. 30 seconds is a lot longer than it actually seems. I'd have to dig up a few episode and watch them to be sure. It may take 30 seconds when they're cutting back and forth between shots of the transporter operator and shots of the actual materialization and dematerialization process. But in TOS it's about 10-15 seconds.

You can also tell it's "old" due to the engine nacelles; the NXO1's nacelles have that ball on the front like the TOS Constitution class ships.

It's "old" ships with new graphics.

I don't mind, it's neat in a way.
